For fine dining restaurants of the repute of Craftworks & Oota that have been operating for over a decade, consistency in service, and taste of dishes is key to their longevity.
On my 3rd visit to this highly rated, Oota, it fell short on both counts.
The staff allotted to our table appeared indifferent and aloof. Something as basic as refill of drinking water needed multiple reminders. It was not that the restaurant was busy, it narrows down to attention to detail.
When I brought to the attention of the waiter that a dish I ordered, Brinjal Salad, did not suit my pallette, he had a strange smirk on his face. He responded, " you should have checked with staff before ordering". In other fine dining restaurants, they would have volunteered to bring something else.
The worse was yet to come.
The averakai wadai that we ordered had a long hair strand in it. This was politely brought to the attention of the staff. Thankfully the staff, including the waiter, manager and the junior chef were sincerely apologetic about it.
One of us ordered for a beer refill. The beer was dispensed at the bar but it waited long for it be brought to our table. We had a clear line of sight of the bar. The taste went flat by the time it arrived.
We ordered for extra neer dosas after the designated order time of 10pm. The manager had to intervene to ensure that it was made and served as the waiter refused. We are grateful for that.
The taste of the dishes, and we ordered most of the dishes on the menu, was subpar. There were certain dishes that waiter said we will have to serve ourselves. Really?
When regular patrons visit restaurants like Craftworks or Oota, the expectations are sky high. Unfortunately, on this visit our expectations and experiences came...
Read moreOota Bangalore is a must-visit for anyone who loves traditional Karnataka cuisine. The restaurant offers an extensive menu of dishes that are cooked to perfection and showcase the authentic flavors of the region.
The prawn ghee roast is a standout dish that is bursting with flavor. The prawns are cooked to perfection and the ghee and spices provide a perfect balance of sweetness and spice. The variety of rotis served at Oota Bangalore is impressive, and they pair perfectly with the mutton rasa. The mutton is cooked to perfection, with tender meat that falls off the bone and a rich and flavorful sauce that is sure to impress.
One of the unique aspects of Oota Bangalore is the complimentary papad served with five different chutneys. This is a great way to sample different flavors and add some variety to your meal. The restaurant is also true to its Karnataka roots, and guests are encouraged to eat with their hands, though they do provide spoons for those who prefer.
It is worth noting that the food budget at Oota Bangalore is on the higher side. However, the quality of the food and the experience make it a worthwhile investment for anyone looking to explore traditional Karnataka cuisine.
In summary, Oota Bangalore is a fantastic restaurant that serves delicious and authentic Karnataka cuisine. The prawn ghee roast and mutton rasa are must-try dishes, and the complimentary papad with chutney is a great added touch. While the food budget may be on the higher side, the quality of the food and the overall experience make it a great value. I highly recommend Oota Bangalore to anyone looking for a unique culinary experience...
Read moreAfter long google search, I found this place and I was very excited to visit this restaurant. So, we visited this restaurant last night it was pretty good place to visit with family. We opted this place just because you get good south dishes.
Please note, this place is VERY EXPENSIVSE.
We had ordered Drinks (Beer and Cocktails). Beer was ok (not good as other brew place which i visited) Cocktails - Damn so much less quantity (Small glasses) for the price what they charge. BYG, Blackpearl and Iron Hill etc... few to name is way better than this place on the quantity perspective.
Few Starters - Chicken Sukka and Rava fish - was good and tasty.
Main Course: Ragi Mudde (INE 125), Bass Saaru & Palya (INR 500), Keema Undai curry (INR 750), Neer Dosa (80) - They charge bomb for these.
Except Ragi Mudde everything else was pathetic.
They say south dishes, I dont know which part of the south they make dishes like this...
I request the restaurant to make your cook learn how to prepare south dishes. (pure south dishes) Bass Saaru, Soppu palya (worst), and Keema Undai curry (So SPICY, tasteless). Neer Dosa - Was not hot and not as we expected. Those who have tasted good neer dosa would know this.
Overall, I never tasted such a worst food ever (Main Course) for the price they charge. Totally DISAPPOINTED and was not satisfied paying 5K for this restaurant...
