Last year I rated 4 ⭐, and I'm forced to lower it to 1 ⭐ as there is no way to rate it negatively.
Once I ordered through Swiggy & once through Zomato and both times items were missing. A little bit of delay in reporting to those aggregators didn't help in resolutions both times - I mean, without opening the parcel pockets none was wise enough to guess an estimate of the missing items!
Today I made it a point to visit & walked in to order take away by 10AM. I ordered Pongal, Masala Dosai, Vadai, and Idlees - promptly was told the unavailability of Pongal (come on, by 10 AM on the Sunday morning!!?). So I changed the order to 2 plates of idlees (4 pieces), 2 vadais, 2 m.dosai, and 1 set poori with potato masala.
By 11:15 AM (!??), when I was handed over the package, because of the previous experience, I queried the lady if all the sides got packed too. She replied affirmatively showing me the three aluminium foil covers telling me that 2 for two types of chutneys & 1 for potato masala, the side that often gets missed.
Guess my shock when I reached my home around 10:30? No side again for the Poori! The third package has 2 vadais in it instead of accompanying the 4 idlees in their flat container!!
I don't consider this as deliberate cheating rather along with the two soured up Dosais, the whole episode shows clear mismanagement!
When I left the restaurant, almost most of the items on the menu were over, and that success, as the result of the overwhelming response of the crowd nearby, craving Tamilnadu style breakfast items & thronging that joint should have gone to the head of the management to let the quality in food, taste, packaging, service, etc to slip so low unfortunately! So sad that regulars like us wouldn't reorder anytime soon.
The restaurant was so pathetic that no one answered the phone when we called either to order ahead before reaching there or for...
Read moreThe Mylapore Cafe serves authentic Tamil Nadu style food The food is tasty, fresh and varied The price is reasonable and the service is nice The breakfast comes with 3 different chutneys and no sweet sambar The ambience is decent but not fancy No Title. I have visited The Mylapore Cafe 3-4 times and I have always enjoyed their authentic Tamil Nadu style food. If you are looking for a place that serves traditional dishes from this South Indian state, you can choose this cafe without hesitation. I had the chance to taste some of their signature items, such as Idly sambar, Podi dosa, vada, filter coffee and more. The Idly sambar was soft and fluffy, the Podi dosa was crispy and spicy, the vada was crunchy and savory, and the filter coffee was aromatic and refreshing. The price was also reasonable for the quality and quantity of the food. The service was really nice and courteous, which you don’t find in all these Karnataka style restaurants (Udipis, Sagars, Darhinis & etc) that are more common in the city. They serve breakfast with 3 different kinds of chutney that are distinct in flavor and texture, and no sweet sambar that spoils the taste of the food. Overall, it was a nice experience and I would recommend this cafe to anyone who loves Tamil Nadu cuisine. The ambience was not very fancy or modern, but it was decent enough to have a comfortable and...
Read moreWe have recently ordered breakfast and lunch for 35 people for a small family function and we were thoroughly impressed with the overall experience from 'Mylapore cafe'. I highly recommend this place for Tamil style food. It's authentically Tamil style. For breakfast we had ulundhu vadai, pongal, poori kezhangu, idly, coconut chutney, spicy red chutney, sambar and coffee. For lunch we had paruppu, raitha, poriyal, koottu, sambar, vattha kozhambu, rasam, masala vadai, appalam, payasam, curd and pickle, all served in banana leaf. The quantity of the food was more than adequate. Our family liked the food and had no complaints about any item. Their staff co-ordinated with us and made the delivery in a smooth manner. One more point to add: the restaurant in teacher's colony 5th main also belongs to the same group and there's no difference in the food taste. I do not know why the ratings...
