Thirdwave lovers in the city well know the comfort of the cafe's cozyly-lit cabins of glass, grey and wooden walls. Every regular has their own favourite branch, closer to home or farther depending on preference. Writers, artists and corporate employees alike; everyone finds a room of their own when they walk into a Thirdwave.
The clean bathrooms obviously add to the comfort. And the soft-yet-audibly present music played in the background ā clearly chosen by someone with an eclectic appetite for both art and life ā teleports one from the bustling, traffic-ridden reality and noisily chockablock jams of the busy streets these cafes really stand on. But these comforts, and of course the good coffee, aren't all that one gets to savour at a Thirdwave. Take the Fraser Town branch for example (this one's my favourite I think).
The people working seven days straight behind the counters of my favourite cafe are the real treasure I have come to find at Thirdwave Fraser Town.
An employee who now works at another branch first sowed a bean in my heart for this branch with a glimpse at his kindness. Sundeep, while serving his customers, managed to serve the hungry too. A little boy, unfortunately very likely under 14, lugging a tea canister around the town, a tea vendor, would find his favourite, possibly most loved, cup of coffee at the cafe. Sundeep served it to him every night after hours, on the house (possibly on him).
Laxmi, the current leader of the team, is no less. He really leads by example. He greets the regulars with a warm smile, as if embracing them and saying, "I remember you. Nice to have you back." He welcomes the newcomers with just as much grace, extending the first courtesy.
You may argue with me now that these are all basics one can expect from the hospitality industry. But brethren, how many smiles and hellos have you received where someone has welcomed you, greeted you and served you with their heart?
Mani, the man often taking orders behind the counter, is no different. A hello behind the counter is one thing but a friendly wave while on the go, outside the counter, is what Mani brings to the table. Quite literally. He will ask you if you liked your coffee and he will not turn you down if you request for an extra pump of cream mid slurping.
Manish, who works the night shift, is no less a charmer. He goes out of his way, adding to his plate while collecting yours, to ask if your beverage requires reheating.
The entire team, including Kiran, Sanjana, Bhuvan and Rajeshwari, while having to run up and down between floors, in and out between their spaces, amid the grunt work and the professional hospitality, exude a warmth that compels one to return to a Thirdwave, to their Thirdwave.
Come, grab a cup here... Where even the cold coffee, served with caramel-like sweetness and vanilla-like grace, will...

Ā Ā Ā Read moreThird Wave Coffee you got your game spot on and on track to beat Global coffee giants like Starbucks with its known "customer-first" focus...
Recently, I was in there new #FrazerTown outlet in #Bengaluru (previously it was the iconic Cafe Coffee Day outlet).
How often do you see any brand (especially in India) empowering its ground staff to take a decision on the spot, without any approval? Rarely. It was however different for this #BangaloreStartup.
While enjoying my regular Iced Americano for the first time in this new outlet, I spilled the glass with 75% drink (trying to get up). Mind you, this was on 1st floor where staff had no direct visibility.
To my absolute surprise they not only got me a replacement drink but also helped me with a new table that was not wobbly. They went way beyond their "required" KPI to delight their customer. This was when there was no store manager (it was early morning).
Congratulations to Ayush Bathwal and Anirudh Sharma for getting the service #culture right. It is the most critical part of any cafe. Most brands miss out as they focus purely on aesthetics and extensive menu planning.
For a Starbucks loyalist, I'm a...
