📍 Nimantran by OTDC, Near RD women's College, Bhubaneswar
Dishes Ordered • Plain and Ghee Rice • Chatu Besar • Potala Kasa • Mutton Kasa • Chicken Kasa • Dahi Baigan • Soda
Own Experience :
• We ordered both plain and ghee rice. As I felt it's Better to go for Plain rice instead of Ghee rice , though both have the same price. Ghee sprinkled rice it is , not the usual Ghee rice made in restaurants.
• Chatu Besar was a disappointment , the amount of mustard is too much that ruined the taste of mushroom. Potala Kasa was good enough and one plate is sufficient for 3 people.
• Mutton Kasa , this dish took the lime light. It feels bit expensive that at ₹400 rupees you can get a maximum of 5-pcs but it's scrumptious. You can count this in one of the best mutton places in Bhubaneswar.
• Chicken Kasa, I think in my second visit am gonna exclude this dish in particular, felt like waste of money. Chicken wasn't cooked properly. And the gravy made it felt like chicken soaked in water.
• Dahi Baigan was good in taste and well cooked. No masala Soda was available only raw soda was served. The Dishes ordered were sufficient for 4-people.
Things need to be taken care,
• The menu Circulated in Internet isn't the actual food being served. They do write the daily menu on white board.
• Looking at the quantity and Price it's too expensive. E.g Mutton - ₹400 (for 4-6 pcs) and Badi Chura - ₹80. They Need to merge the quantity as per price or reduce the price.
• Too limited dishes for Vegetarians. And No roti or Nan is served there. Also take away isn't available yet.
• Crowd management. As there's huge rush you'll see long queues. They're failing to attend them, which they can avoid by making a list of the people waiting in the queue.
First thing about Nimantran, there's a high chance that you might not be able to eat the same thing that you would've eaten during your last visit here. Their menu changes alot, not like a few dishes are missing but the whole menu changes. So last time we had chingudi dalma, mutton kassa and sorodi fish curry (might be naming the fish wrong, sorry about that). We paired that with plain rice and roti. Good food, absolutely loved the chingudi dalma, didn't eat fish but got review from the friend who ate it, that it was nice. Mutton not too rich or oily, good and balanced.
So this time I went to eat Chungudi Dalma, but Nimantran decided to change their entire menu. And I ate the following; Chicken Kassa, that tasted better than the mutton they had prepared last time. Four big pieces of chicken in a thick gravy. We had chingudi bhaja (prawn fry), this was the best thing that I had tried there. It was just a normal bhaja (can I call bhaja Indian version of stir fry) with a lot of onion and phutana (panch phoran), it will fill the heart of people. Had paired these two with vegetable pulao and roti. Vegetable pulao was just like any other pulao nothing out of ordinary.
Now I'm left wondering if ever will I get a chance to have that chingudi bhaja again, because what if the menu changes.
Other than the main dishes they also serve appetizers and soups that are never available and desserts that mostly include chena podo and rasagolla. Last time I had a beautifully made rasabali and it wasn't there today. So I tried their chena podo. Nimantran does a good job in preparing it's...

Really filling portions so order judiciously. We went for all veg options. Chena tarkari, kanika and patra kobi matar kasa For 2 people it was filling and so tasty. Ghara katha maney padijiba if you live away from your house. The chena was juicy and the gravy was really less oily, thick from the all kaju and right spices and the chena was really juicy and fresh Kanika(sweet rice)was really well cooked with sweet just perfect,Ghee was so less but the desi gua ghia smell just filled our stomach by the aromas,Missed the less quantity dryfruits in it though. That could have been more Finally the patra kobi/bandha kobi/pata gobi matar tarkari was just so beautifully delicious It was moist, the sweetness of the gobi/kobi was really nicely incorporated, that haldi and spices reminds of mothers kobi tarkari
The attendants and the managers are really well behaved Will surely visit again If you are an Odia or someone who wants to have authentic Odia cuisine visit nimantran After all they...
