Royal Hotel — Restaurant in Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation

Too bad. Avoid.

I am like many odias who take their food pretty seriously. I also am working in Bangalore and drop in occassionally. So I had a Biryani craving the other night and took opinions on what is a good place in Bhubaneswar. Zomato swiggy ratings you can't completely trust these days. So I asked folks. Recommendations came in for Royal hotel and so I ordered.

What turned up was a oily flavourless mess. Can't really call it a biryani. This is next level horrible. Usually, a typical biryani rice gets dum i.e. steam and it turns up moist and smells of the garam masalas that go along with biryani. As you can see my photos, my fingers are caked with oil. The chicken pieces were very dry and chewy. The biryani lacked any semblance of flavour. Even salt was under.

Terrible experience. This royal is just for namesakes.

SERVICE:: The service is super❤️ I don't know but i feel like i was extra taken care of. That uncle in pink shirt who served us was super humble😊 he kept on asking "raita au debi? , Onions? Then other stuffs he insisted"

AMBIENCE:: Now coming on to ambience, its a very old food joint which is a bit underground. You will feel cozzy here.

TASTE & PRICE:: We tried, Chicken Biryani (2 piece) without egg which was around 180/- The taste was descent but not that classy. But the price is bit higher. I would prefer to have it at 140 max to max. The next dish was "Mughali chicken paratha" which is super tasty (80/-) not sure about the price but was near that range. One paratha will be sufficient for 2person if you are also ordering few side dishes..

I'm sorry Owner Sir, I changed my review today. I had been to your hotel to have chicken Biryani. After taking two spoons, I felt like thin Balu (thin sand) is there. After that I spoke to the person who served me. But he said itne Jan khate Hain, kisiko nahin lag raha hey. Then I requested to taste one spoon from my plate n said yes sir, it's taste Balu(thin sand). Then I left my table without completed my biriyani because of Balu(thin sand). Came to the counter n counter person charged 100 bucks. 100 bucks is not important, but without completed food due to fault in food from your hotel side, you are charging the Bill.
