Read moreWe have heard very good reviews of India restaurant's biriyani. So we went experience the famous kachhi( dariyabadi) biriyani .
Atmosphere and the service of the staff are good. The place is well decorated,well maintained and the staff are cordial and helpfull.
We ordered galauti kebab and dariyabadi biriyani. Kebab was served with Paratha. The texture is good , kebab size is good, Paratha with it also good. At first 1-2 bite with Paratha you will feel great but after they you will feel use of excessive chilli powder in it. It is not of spice but excess chilli i feel. Though I can handle spicy food very well. After some bite of this kebab i have to drink a lot of water to reduce the burning sensation in my mouth.
Next the biriyani.;
We asked about the dariyabadi biriyani from the staff, he mentioned that it will be sweet and sour. We have decided to try as we heard very good reviews about this item. He also mentioned it will taste a bit different and will have lots of dry fruits. ( He actually tried to warn us against it indirectly)
Portion size is good, no complain about it. As like the kebab it also felt nice for 1-2 bites, but after that the sweet taste overwhelmed so much i have difficulty completing my portion, though it was not that much. The taste is not at all great of this biriyani. Maybe some one may find it tasty but to me it is too sweet. And my wife also get a FOOT( yes FOOT with the hoof) who can expect to get foot of a goat in their mutton piece of biriyani. This is not at all expected from such a renowned biriyani vendor.
Both the food tastes good for the first 1/2 bite then they are a torture on the palate. One is too hot , one is too sweet
I can't comment about any other...
Read moreOn the recommendation of a friend, one fine day me and my family landed in India Restaurant Kaikhali. The main and popular branch is located at Kidderpore. They have a parking space near the restaurant. We went straight ahead to the 1st floor. There were sitting arrangements of more than 30 people. We took a seat at a corner table. The designed menu card was awesome. It tells the history of India Restaurant. It is among the top 5 Biriyani sellers in Kolkata. So I had high expectations. Then I asked the service guy for kebabs and found out most of the kebabs are not available. The time was 1.30 PM. As he insisted, we ordered Peshwari and Reshmi Kebabs. In the main course, we ordered Biryani, Mixed Raita, Chicken Gravy Dish (Probably Chicken Achari) and Firni.
The kebabs got served after 20 minutes. The taste was not up to the mark. Expectations not met. Both the kebabs taste similar. Seems like they were in a hurry. Then came Biryani with chicken gravy. Special Mutton Biryani comes with an egg and 2 meat pieces. Biriyani tastes awesome. Typical Kolkata Biryani. Chicken gravy item disappointed. Not perfectly boiled chicken pieces with spicy gravy was very difficult to eat. Somehow we managed to finish our meal. Unexpectedly the Raita won my heart. It was THE finest item I had that day. Same goes to the Firni. It was also good. My favorites that day were Mixed Raita, Firni and Biryani. I thought to give the restaurant a poor rating because of the kebabs and Chicken Achari I had but I changed my mind for Raita, Biryani and Firni.
Recommendations: If you ever plan to go there then do try Mixed Raita and Firni along...
