First Look at the new menu additions @ The Canister Café, Salt Lake.!
One of the most underrated places in Salt Lake, AMP Baisakhi Mall now has a new attraction for all the youngsters in the form of Canister Café. A two-storey café, just at the common area outside the mall, the exclusive and open location of this café, is what would attract you the most. The quirky paintings, the rooftop sitting, and the down to earth ambiance, everything adds up to the charm of this café. The main focus of the café is to reuse and recycle the discarded scrap materials, and hence they have their tables and chairs built out of round and cylindrical containers known as canister, thus attributing the name ‘Canister Café’ to this establishment.
The food here is fast and quick, as you would expect a café food to be, but is surprisingly filling at the same time. We started off with some Fish Baked Momos, which had a lovely minced fish filling which was mixed with selective spices. The wrapping was thin, and the baking imparted a lovely crisp and crunch to the momos. Topped with some bell peppers, parsley, and with some sweet and spicy sauce on the side to pair with the momos. The Chicken Keema with Pao was one example of a filling dish, with the spicy chicken keema topped with cheese being a perfect accompaniment to the buttery and soft Pao’s.
Peri Peri Chicken Noodles was a twist on the popular Wai-Wai. Tossed with the spicy punch of Peri Peri spices, the noodles, which resembled more like a Wai Wai, was placed on a bed of a tomato-chilli sauce, and a big poached egg on the top. With the egg yolk flowing into the noodles and finally mixing with the sauce was a gastronomic treat to the eyes and to the tastebuds. Paying homage to the popular manga Uzumaki Naruto and his favourite food Ramen, Canister Café has introduced Naruto Ramen in its recent introduction of its menu. Serving as the Kolkata alternative to Ichiraku, the Naruto Ramen was as good as it could get.
Some button mushrooms, broccoli, bell peppers, fried chicken (mostly on the like of nuggets), one boiled egg divided into two fine portions, and some crunchy prawn wafers, along with a thick noodle made up what Naruto Ramen here was presented as. The noodle again, along with the spices used gave the impression of the age-old Maggi. Mix all the ingredients together, and you can have a warm bowl of Ramen to get you through the chilling cold of the winters. Chicken Butter Masala Rice, along with the Chicken Barbeque Crepe Roll were the last of the meal to grace our plates, before we winded up for the day.
The Crepe Roll was filling, yet light and full of flavours. The Butter Chicken was cooked to perfection and was paired with herbed rice, with a poached egg on the top. For drinks, we tried a Mango Smoothie, Black Currant Smoothie, Black Currant Mojito, Blue Lagoon and Mango Lemon Punch. We ordered for the Mango Lemon Punch twice, as its refreshing and fizzy texture complemented the food, helping us to gulp down even more. The Black Currant Mojito is something new and to be watched out for. A must visit place, do try the new additions in the menu if you are around.
Thank You Anusree Saha for the invitation.
