While I really liked the desserts here before, my most recent trip was disappointing. I ordered a banoffee pie, and was surprised to see them plating the display piece, which looked like it had been sitting there, uncovered, for quite some time. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that the cream had flattened and become weirdly dense (as it usually does when “fresh” cream has been sitting out for too long). When confronted, the employee kept insisting it was fresh, even though the taste and the look of the banoffee pie suggested otherwise. To make it worse, the next order of banoffee pie they gave to someone else was taken from the covered plate under which they keep the fresh slices, and that piece actually had the distinct layer of cream that was lacking on my piece. A previous visit with my sisters also had an unfortunate ending, with one of my sisters feeling ill after eating the pasta (which tasted like it had been cooked in old oil). All in all, Be Happy Cafe is one of the better eateries around Bodhgaya, but I would personally recommend also visiting the many other interesting restaurants and cafes that are popping up...
