After much hype, went to have dinner with my family at Desi Vibes as they had been here a couple of years ago and had rave reviews of the place. It has a new 4 story restaurant with a traditional Indian decor based on Rajasthani artwork. The restaurant was full on a Thursday night and buzzing with people. However, the food experience was thoroughly disappointing to say the least.

Food Review:

Welcome Drink Complimentary (Shikanji) - Probably the best thing we ate or drank during the entire meal. It had a perfect balance of sweet, salty and tangy. Rating: 4/5

Tomato Shorba - Decent taste, had a balanced flavor but nothing special. Rating: 2.5/5

Corn ka Shorba - Too heavy with just cream and corn. While the taste was decent, expect much better of a corn soup. Rating: 1.5/5

Veg Kebab Platter - it came with 4 pieces each of 5 different vegetarian starters. While the Bhutte de kebab were good, the other dishes were average or just above average. Rating: 3/5

Dal Makhani - For me the real test of a North Indian restaurant is in how they make their Dal Makhani and Butter Chicken. However the Dal Makhani was atrociously bad. There was no buttery taste or any kind of smoky flavor. However the biggest issue was the excessive salt that made it impossible to eat beyond a few bites for anyone on the table at which point we had already lost our appetite. Rating: 0.5/5

Paneer Dhaniya Adraki - Again, similar to the Dal the gravy was way too salty and even the bland paneer could not bring the salt level down. The dish had absolutely no flavor of ginger or coriander which are supposed to be the stars of the dish. Rating: 0/5

Butter Naan - Received soggy stale naans which had clearly been sitting for a while and had been reheated. On asking the staff to change it, they promptly got it replaced. But on the second time, half of the naans were burnt and had a clear charcoal taste. Disappointed we just ate the few good pieces. Rating: 1/5

Mango Lassi - Average, but clearly made out of additives. Again, expect better from such a highly rated restaurant. Rating: 2.5/5

Pickles - Probably the unique highlight with the lemon and chilli pickles particularly tasty. Rating: 3.5/5
