Hudson Lane, the new HKV of north Delhi, is known for the many cafes dotting either sides of the road. Bright neon lights and creative facades play the trick to entice the youngsters who are looking to have a good time.
You would be amazed to see a new one every time that you go there as the cafes open and close at a frantic pace but the one that has stood strong with time and shines bright is Cafetaria & Co.
I am usually experimental and want to try a new destination but this one had me going there thrice! I love the fact that it is a family café, as opposed to many in the area which are either not kid friendly or are not suitable to take your parents along, but here you can do both.
A bright and cheery place, I have to wait every time that I had been there. The choice of music is good too. The first floor has a mix of high chair seating and small table seating while the second floor has bigger tables, perfect for a family dinner or small celebrations. The menu is well thought of and has the best of the options.
The fries are the best here and you can see them almost on all tables. Choose your dip from the many options. We ordered the Cheese Jalapeno Balls and the Paneer Tikka Spring Rolls both of which were bang on flavours.
The star burgers, in a choice of white and brown buns, are a hit. We tried the Beyonce burger in brown bun and it was as soft and fresh as it can get. They call their pizzas as Hexizzas (no points for guessing, of course for the shape). They are thin crust and loaded with toppings.
Since we were already feeling full but out of sheer greed wanted to have the pizza, the staff was accommodating enough to suggest us to have half and half of veg and non veg.
And of course, one can’t leave Cafetaria without having their crepes. Not a fan of banana, I tried it on the staff recommendation and was pleasantly surprised by the warm Nutella and...
Read moreVisit to Cafeteria & CO. after a gap of few years.... Food is definitely gone down on taste and quality in all these years... however it is a lot more expensive than earlier and in comparison to the restaurants around. Portion size is good and quality is just ok or barely edible. Our ordered items in attached pictures with detailed review are as under....
▪︎Grilled Fish & Prawns in lemon butter sauce with vegetables and rice. Basa fish is one of the cheapest priced fish and not suitable for such grilled gourmet dishes. We requested them to replace and upgrade our fish type with river sole fish (which was available in their restaurant) at extra charges... which was refused by them. Accompanying vegetables were cold and lumpy. Rice were slightly undercooked and unnecessarily loaded with oil (4/10)
▪︎Chilly Chicken with Fried Rice. Chicken pieces were nothing more than cheap and small cuts of chicken giving guest appearance with lead role played by coating batter. Fried Rice were undercooked and almost flavourless with emphasis on salt (3/10)
▪︎Chicken Overload + Peppy Paneer - Half & Half Thin Crust Pizza. This was the only satisfactory dish in the entire meal (6/10)
▪︎German Chocolate Thick Shake... avoidable and hopeless... at Rs.300 a glass, it was absolutely a blunder to order. It wasn't chilled. It wasn't blended properly. There were cream chocolate biscuits been mixed in the name of a premium chocolate shake. At least... put 1 or 2 scoops of ice cream to make it smooth and creamy. And STOP defaming Germans by naming your cheap shake on them. (1/10)
All in all.... will I be visiting tgem again?? Well... not too soon.... might never... However might rarely order their Fish or Pizza through Zomato or Swiggy.... but only when no other eating choice option...
Read moreThis cafe is located in Hudson Lane amongst a sea of other cafes. Easy to spot since it's set up in a two-storied building with classy exteriors as well as interiors. We went here on a Saturday. It was bustling with mostly college kids and/or families, and had to wait 15 mins to get a seat. The interiors were really pretty and instaworthy. There were paintings on the wall, and art sculptures hanging from the ceiling which gave it a sort of a boho look.
We ordered the ultimate chicken pizza which came loaded with grilled chicken, sausages and Jamaican chicken. We were very excited to try the pizza however, the taste was so disappointing! It had a sour taste to it the kind which you can taste when something has gone stale or is on the verge of spoiling. (And yeah, I got a bad stomach ache that day after consuming it, which lasted till the following day)
We also had tandoori prawns. Those were nicely cooked, thankfully. Tasted fresh, crunchy and had tandoori masala coated evenly. I really enjoyed finishing it.
For drinks, we tried the butterfly pea flower lemonade. As the name suggests, we expected a blue hued drink from the butterfly pea flower extracts, but upon receiving it we were quite surprised to find a normal white lemonade with the butterfly pea flower placed on the glass mouth just for aesthethics. The lemondade tasted refreshing since it was a hot day, but I'm sorry to say, the name did no justice to the drink.
Overall, service was remarkable. ✅ Polite servers and ushers. Waiting time was also low. I think we got our food just after 5 minutes post...
