I have been visiting this restaurant right from the time this hotel started. The quality of its food has been steadily going from excellent to horrid. The excellent era was before it adorned itself with the dubious distinction of being the only pure vegetarian Chinese restaurant in the world. Then came the bad vegetarian times, and now we have the inedible non-vegetarian times.
I do not know who ever told the chef that zeera wala phool papad is part of Chinese cuisine? Be prepared so that you are not startled when served with these as welcome starters.
Whether you order Konjee crispy fried chicken, fried pork ribs or the red snapper, they all taste the same. The chef thinks that by adding sugar, starch, a lot of oil and sesame seeds, he has created a Chinese dish. The noodles are thick and oily, looking like the "chow mein" that one sees sold on the roadside. The main course dishes are insipid. You can make better Nasi Goreng and Mee Goreng at home. The white fungi soup with coconut milk was refreshing and had set the perfect tone for a fabulous Chinese lunch. The lotus stem with oats was so good that we finished it in no time. The array of dimsums is not just delicious but also provides lot of variety. The elegant calamari tossed in salt and paper, was absolutely delicious. The Singaporean chili crab with seafood rice was perfect for that afternoon and so was the chilliean seabass.
