The more than 150 years old outlet was started by Pyarelal, who sold lemon sherbet in kullars (clay tumblers) along with paan (betel leaf). This was very popular among the citizens of the Old Delhi. After him his younger brother, Chunni lal continued to cater to the patrons. Later, his son Ved Prakash took over and in 1970 the sale of paan was discontinued. But the popularity of sola sold in Codd neck bottles continued. Sometime in late 80s they introduced Shikanji and Jeera Soda.

Easy-to-refrigerate crown bottles and the lighter PET bottles are now slowly replacing the Codd necks bottles. The Soda is now served in disposable plastic glasses poured straight from PET bottle

I was on a heritage walk in and around Chandni Chowk. Our scheduled walk was from 11 AM to 2 PM. Along the way, we passed many roadside businesses, but one that truly stood out was “Ved Prakash Lemon wale”

There was a large crowd gathered around the stall, all waiting for their turn to grab a glass of his famous lemonade. Naturally, we joined the queue too!
