📍 Introduction Sunehri Masjid, located near Red Fort and Chandni Chowk in Old Delhi, is one of the most historic and architecturally rich mosques in the capital. The name "Sunehri" means "golden", referring to its once gilded domes.
🏗️ Historical Background
Built in 1721 by Roshan-ud-Daula, a noble in the court of Mughal Emperor Muhammad Shah.
It was later renovated and modified under different Mughal officials.
Associated with Nadir Shah's invasion of Delhi in 1739, where from this mosque, Nadir Shah allegedly gave the order for the massacre in Delhi after a clash with his soldiers.
The masjid has been witness to important historical events, making it a symbol of Delhi’s Mughal past.
