Sagar Ratna is a reliable choice for delicious and satisfying South Indian vegetarian food. My recent visit solidified that feeling, especially since I was craving some classic comfort food. I started with the Podi Idli, those soft, pillowy rice cakes generously coated in that fragrant, slightly spicy podi powder. It's a simple dish, but Sagar Ratna executes it perfectly – the idlis were light and fluffy, and the podi had just the right amount of heat and nutty flavor. Then came the Mysore Masala Dosa, a personal favorite. The dosa itself was crisp and thin, just the way I like it, and the potato filling was flavorful and well-spiced, with that distinctive Mysore touch. It wasn't overly greasy, which is always a plus. The accompanying chutneys and sambar were also on point, adding to the overall experience. Beyond the food, the service was friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere, while not fancy, was clean and comfortable. It's the kind of place you can go for a quick and satisfying meal without breaking the bank. If you're in the mood for authentic South Indian cuisine, Sagar Ratna is definitely worth...
Read moreIt was a delight to find that my favourite old haunt had reopened after a longish hiatus. The Sagar Ratna restaurant at Malviya Nagar has been around since 1986, and is therefore one of the earliest branches of Sagar Ratna chain. They serve delicious South Indian meals and snacks and north Indian as well (I've never tried the latter here), and is on two floors. The seating upstairs offers a view of the main Malviya Nagar market, with its jostling crowd and traffic on the main road. It's good when you're not part of it, but sitting instead in cool ac comfort and enjoying a conversation over filter coffee with friends and colleagues. Go for their Chettinad dosa if your taste buds are asking for something spicy, else stick to the conventional idli, dosa, utthapam, vada, etc. They have some new items on the menu now, such as the idli chaat (yummy!) The filter coffee is good if taken with milk, not so great if consumed as black coffee. Overall, a welcome experience with friendly and helpful staff, and a spotless...
Read moreJust had the worst experience of south indian food found anywhere in whole of India at Sagar Ratna restaurant, malviya nagar, delhi branch. I mean it. Have ordered a masala dosa which was ok with good chutney but worst ever sambhar and puri bhaji with korma. Attached are the 2 pictures. One is of masala of dosa (and they agreed to it that it's masala of masala dosa) which they passed off as so called aloo bhaji and the other pic is of korma which was a mixture of watery, not even properly boiled vegetables . When I complained they were adamant that this is the same korma and bhaji they serve in all of their branches. But it's not so. Go to GK2 branch of SR, it's good. Have been to n number of their branches including their head branch called Ocean of Pearls at Mangaluru. They wee really good. But if u trust my word avoid it at any cost. Haldirams, which is a walking distance from here and who 8s not even a speciality of south indian food is miles...
