Chef Sumera’s award winning restaurant is tucked in a little by lane of Calangute. It is a quaint little place totally accessible and reachable using google maps. The map literally dropped us to the door step and we were also pleasantly surprised to find ample parking space for our car. Their manager welcomed us and seated us at a cosy little corner before serving us these little toasts with onion tamarind topping. We asked the manager for suggestions coz there was so much to choose and we were spoilt for choice. He suggested their famed Warm DanishBlue cheese cloud which came with figs, walnuts and a light salad. The cheese was nice and not hard hitting or too cheesy and it indeed tasted like a cloud. We also tried the marinated crabmeat which was crispy, juicy and absolutely delightful. These two appetiser went wonderfully with the three dips they served us (tamarind and chilly based). For the main course we decided to be a little adventurous and went for the red chilly pasta which was unique as it was a dry pasta. A little spicy but yummy nevertheless. Along with that we had the abuse and chicken ginger breast which was served with pumpkin sauce, mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes. Both of which went wonderfully with our red wine. The food is plated beautifully and each dish is like a beautiful piece of art in itself. Their portions are also sufficient for one which is good because one can try a lot more items from the menu in this fashion. As dessert lovers, we decided to plunge into the dessert menu and ordered the passion fruit pavlova which was meringue based with a topping of fresh cream and strawberries served with passion fruit ice cream. This was light on the palette as well as flavourful. We also tried the chocolate espresso sampler which was a chocolate dome with choco mousse and warm hazelnut sauce and ice cream. Both of them were different kinds of dessert. While one was lighter and fruity, the other was chocolate heavy and decadent. Amavi has a specially curated vegan menu which also has a number of vegan desserts as well. Our food arrived in a jiffy and we were also served with big smiles and they were friendly and amicable. Amavi is not only about scrumptious food but also wonderful ambience and...
Read moreThis a really nice fine dining resturant. Talking about the ambience, the seating arrangement is very pleasant. Large gaps in walls from where you get nice view of the lawn, garden, there is a fountain in the middle. Walls look beautiful and the art on the walls makes it even better.
The food here is healthy as well as delicious. Very different than the normal dishes we are used to. We tried chicken and fish however they serve other meet too which is actually their specialty Let's get into different dishes we tried.
Warm Danish Blue Cheese Cloud The dish is filled with lots of greens, the cheese when eaten along with the greens gives an amazing taste. Who knew greens can be so delicious. This is a must try dish.
Tiger shrimp crisp fried The shrimp are soft and nicely fried they taste really good, soft and crispy.
For main course we had
Smoked chicken breast + Crisp sweet potato, Nam lime juice as sides This is also another dish you must try the chicken, the chicken tastes really good the mashrooms add to the taste.
Red snapper + Coriander rissoto as side It was cooked really nicely but tasted blend, that's mostly as we Goans have a habbit of eating fish with different types of spices. The risotto was very delicious, nice to go along with the fried fish.
The most fun part, Desserts
Whimsical Chocolare Espresso sampler If you are a choclate lover you will love this, it consists of mini brownies, hot chocolate and the melted choclate / sugar crumble complements the taste of the brownies very nicely.
Pavlova This is filled with different berries, if you are a berry lover you should go for this. The mixture of berries and sweet crust gives it a really nice taste.
Apart from this they serve nicely mixed drinks, very enjoyable. Also they give you 3 different sauces with your dish: Lemon grass sauce : the best of them all, nice tangy taste, different. Spicey sauce: Good for Spicey lovers Sweet sauce: It tastes slightly like tamarind,...
Read moreI'd often heard great things about this Resturant from other friends, but somehow never visited, until a week ago ! And I kicked myself for missing out on the brilliant output of Chef Sumera & team ! :-)
Every single appetiser, main course & dessert that our rather big group of friends tried was absolutely amazing. The care in ensuring that each item was prepared perfectly and the flavour combinations were divine !
Typically, when presented with great food I tend to dive in with intense concentration ... and ask questions later ;-) With Amavi, each dish was so well put together .. it actually made me pause, sit up & take notice !
I'd ordered the 'Tenderloin Medallions' and I have this to say : give me a combination of prime beef and bacon like this, and I'll be your friend forever !! And the rest of the range of dishes chosen from the Meats, Poultry, Seafood & Pasta sections were just as brilliant !
As were the desserts. If you happen to worship Chocolate like I tend to, be warned that the 'Chocolate Sampler' may just make you experience temporary enlightenment !
Add in the quick attentive service and some great music by the attendant musician (who's name I sadly forget, but he was excellent too!) ... and it was (like the subject line says) , an absolutely brilliant...
