My wife and I ordered a tea and a coffee. They did not give a menu. We thought a tea wouldn't cost much and so, didn't bother to ask them for the menu. After 15 minutes, the tea and coffee were served. They were made without adding any sugar and so, sugar was given separately but the sugar was stored in a ketchup dispenser! On a beach with a lot of moisture, the sugar in the ketchup dispenser had clumped up. It was a struggle to put sugar into our drinks. By the time I was done adding sugar to my coffee, my wife had finished her tea which, she said, was one of the worst teas she had ever tasted. I was almost done adding sugar to the coffee when a dead insect from the sugar dispenser fell into the coffee. I showed them the same and said that I don't want to have the coffee anymore. They offered to make a fresh one but I refused. Finally, I went to pay for the tea and asked them how much it is. They said it's 150 Rupees! I asked them thrice if it was 150 and whether they were charging me for both the tea and coffee. They said the 150 was for the tea alone! I was so taken aback but since I had not asked them the price of tea beforehand, I paid anyway and left. I felt totally scammed for paying 150 rupees for a cup of unhygienic tea! I understand that it's a tourist place but charging so much and being unprofessional is...

The most difficult thing to do in Goa is to find a nice shack that has good food. As per me, almost all the shacks have the same ambiance if you wish to sit beside the sea on a sunbed during the day and the candle-lit table during the night. The differentiating factor is food and the behavior of the servers. Utorda beach has only 3 shacks, Balton being the biggest. They have live music performances in the evenings which other shacks do not have. The food here is better than what you get in shacks in North Goa. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of food here. Not that they have awesome food, but going by our previous experiences with beach shacks (at least in the 100s), this place faired better. The service is a bit slow as they have only 3 servers but they serve you with a smile. We had a good experience with Vishal and Rubal. All in all, considering the number of shacks present in Utorda beach and the decent quality of food n service here, I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Utorda. I would definitely go there when I visit...
