Nearly all of us have had a traditional problem of sharing our TV screen time with our family. I guess in the times of OTT & multiple devices that's also something which is now under the heading "Ah! Those were the Days".
One series though which made us overcome thise quarrels & made us stick our TV's without having to fight over the dominance of the remote.
That was " MASTERCHEF AUSTRALIA".
When you look at the pictures which I have posted, I won't hold you guilty if u think these are pics of dishes plagiarized from the show.
But lo behold, you don't have to make a long journey Down Under to experience these dishes. You can actually feast on these at our very own Porvorim.
This is the Visual & Gastronomic treat offered "LEMON CHILLI" Porvorim.
A quaint place with fairly standard ambiance, the hero of the show is the food.
The look of the food mesmerizing itself, what takes it to stratospheric level is the way Chef Ranjit Thakur deconstructs & describes it. If you really want to experience passion & deep love for his art you need to just sit & listen to this guy talk about his food.
The quirky fusion combinations are nothing like I have ever experienced before.
For starters we had;
Besan Tofu Chilli (Humble Besan paired with Chinese delicacies) makes an exciting combination which melts in your mouth with a perfect balance of silky smooth Tofu, with kick of Chilli & grounding of Besan.
Prawns & Crab Puri gave a different twist to our beloved chat served with our Sea Food Favourites.
Prawns Plancha was another combo of juicy crunchiness with a delicious sauce that not just retains but elevates the flavour of the Prawns.
Raw Banana fries were also a nice accompaniment, much unlike the Banana Chips we were expecting.
Main Course: It was a bit tough to have much after so many starters. On Chef's insistence we had the Pan Seared Fish (Modso) with Clam Sauce (Tisreo). Generally, as a Goan you don't really take experimentation with your staple Fish very kindly. This eclectic combo was something else though. The fish was seared just perfectly & the clam sauce complimented the taste rather than overpower it. Dessert: Deconstructed White Chocolate Lava with Cherries was another sweet, tangy combination which was like cherry on top (pun unintended) to finish of the meal.

Definitely visit the place, not just to add to your culinary vocabulary but to also experience elite level food in your...
Read moreI'm not a fan of fusion cuisines and for that same reason I haven't been to a lot of fusion restaurants either. So when we decided to go to lemon chilli for dinner last week, I was sceptical. One look at the menu and it looked interesting. Mix of Goan, Indian, continental and few other cuisines and it was obvious that the owner/ chef had put a lot of thought into the dishes on the menu. It was quite a daring attempt. And to my surprise, the flavours worked quite well too. We ordered prawns puri, and a crispy lotus stem dish for starters. The prawns puri was just amazing. Perfectly seasoned, flavours were not too overpowering and prawns was the dominant flavour in the dish. The puri just added to the texture and went well with the prawn filling. Next to the prawn puri, the crispy lotus stem starter seemed underwhelming. Wasn't particularly a bad dish, it had the Oriental/ Chinese sauce flavour but the burnt garlic flavour stood out a little too much to my liking. But again, the dish was nothing short of amazing. For main course we had prawns in carrot sauce and it tasted great too. I wasn't so sure how the carrot sauce would turn out when I placed the order but it tasted so good. Prawns were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Would recommend this to anyone. For dessert, we ordered poached figs in beetroot sauce. I'm not a fan of figs unless they are dried, so my option on this may be biased. I felt that the figs were too sweet for my liking and the flavour was too sharp. But texture of the fig was great. It was served with whipped cream and beetroot sauce. The beetroot sauce- just perfect. But I felt that it didn't go very well with the figs as the flavor from the fig was too overpowering and it was difficult to get the flavour from the sauce. Had the chance to meet Ranjith, the chef/ owner and he definitely is passionate when it comes to cooking. Very much experimental and daring to come up with a menu so great and vibrant and dishes turned out to be amazing too. He even offered us to try out something he was working on- Kachori/ fritters made primarily with channa dal, served with mint and coriander chutney. It tasted so good, I'm looking forward to seen that on the menu. The staff was courteous and service was great, overall a great experience. The place doesn't seem to be in a busy area and I guess the customers are regulars and get to know about the place by word of mouth. I'll be visiting the place again, looking forward to seeing more amazing dishes...
Read moreA small place in Porvorim recommended by a person who has already tasted 85 different countries food and refuses to get tag on Instagram 🤫😁 She spoke highly about this place specially the fusion menu.
Hello peeps!
I visited this place last week. Located in the interior of Porvorim @lemonchilligoa A place I can take all my foodie friends without a second thought. They serve fusion menu at its best. Restaurant is owned by Mayur Shirodkar and Ranjit Thakur. After having a long conversation with them about why they do what they do, it was clear this place is build out of sheer passion for food. After spending 12 years in the hospitality industry and deciding to open something of thier own requires some balls and bats ( no discussion of yesterday's match in comment ) 🙈😭 Special thanks to Mayur for organizing a special menu for me so that I could taste all the delicacies which are not only tasty but healthy at the same time.
@lemonchilligoa keeps working on their menu day in and out so that they can come up with something that keeps you on the edge.
What all I tasted - Food: -Besan Tofu Chilli Crab Puri Grilled Chicken Rice with Mushroom Sauce Peanut Butter Brownie
Beverage: Rummy Ginger Spicy Kokum
Highly recommended - Where to start from, Crab Puri combination made in heaven executed by Mayur and team. Minced crab felt fresh and juicy. Besan Tofu Chilli - a very healthy option and specially the sauce on top made out of green onions, just to inform Mayur I know the recipe now 😁 Grilled Chicken Rice with Mushroom Sauce was the dish of the day. I still couldn't figure out how the texture was so creamy and yet a very less amount of cream involved in the dish. Beverage was curated also quite smartly taking into factor the taste palate of food that I was consuming.
End of the day I felt like I am here not just for blogging but also learning so much about Fusion cuisine which is yet to be explored in our country. Thanks Rhema for recommending this place and join me next time please. What to say about the kitchen team they are way ahead of our times and probably creating something new each day. Keep the floor rocking Mayur and...
