We were lucky to come across this place through a friend on our last night in Goa. Being avid lovers of Japanese food and always wanting to try new places, we walked our way from our hotel which was just 4 mins away from Matcha. It's a small place with just three outdoor tables and a few Japanese looking lanterns hanging at the entrance. We sat at the long outside table since the other two were occupied and could see the chef preparing sushi rolls through the window of the converted bungalow.
We were already full from having eaten a lot throughout the day, but we ordered the Salmon and Avocado Sushi roll and the prawn tempura rice bowl. The ingredients were incredibly fresh. The sushi filling portions were quite generous to say the least. The prawn tempura bowl was so simple but yet so Delish . We were surprised at how much we enjoyed this rice bowl . We would have liked a few more tempura veggies with the rice though. And a little more of the sauce that was in the rice bowl would have gone well too.
Their menu isn't very vast which is a good thing in my opinion. We really wanted to try the chicken teriyaki bowl but unfortunately we were already too stuffed. But, there's...

Read moreThis is a very under-rated restaurant, with exceptional sushis and above par home-made udon. The chef is very hospitable and helpful, along with the rest of the staff. The udon broth is made with shiitake and not dashi but it is still quite tasty, in fact I am not sure if many Japanese places in Goa use dashi.
The food : Sushis (salmon avocado): best I've had so far in North Goa, fresh salmon, sizeable portions and value for money compared to fusion Asian bars whose quality is always below par at best. Japanese Fried chicken : Not too bad if you're looking for fried starters, nothing much to take home Udon : I had the hot, prawn tempura udon. They also add bits of the batter to the broth, but it does not do much service since it becomes soggy and tastless. Anyway, the broth was tasty but the noodles, though home-made looked to me like tagliatelle pasta : this might be the chef's way of making it, but I can assure you that the udon tasted good.
Thanks and...
