Disappointing Experience at Raza Family Bar & Restaurant, Anjuna

This morning at around 9:30 AM, I found myself in an unfortunate situation when I had two ladies with me – one younger and one older – who urgently needed to use a restroom. Considering the urgency, I approached Raza Family Bar & Restaurant for help, politely requesting if we could use their restroom, specifically for the ladies. To my surprise, I was met with a clear and dismissive "no" by the cleaning staff.

I understand that establishments may have policies, but I was under the impression that according to the Indian Sarais Act of 1867, which guarantees the public "free access" to water and restrooms, we had the right to use the facilities, especially in an emergency. Despite this, we were not even given a chance to explain our situation. The staff turned away and walked off, showing complete indifference to the urgency at hand.

To make matters worse, this all happened at 9:45 AM, just 15 minutes before the restaurant's opening time. While I would have been willing to wait had it not been an emergency, the lack of courtesy and basic empathy was shocking.

As a Goan, I was especially disheartened by this treatment. I can't help but wonder how non-Goans might be treated if this is how locals are dealt with. This type of attitude is not something I’ve encountered in South Goa, where hospitality and warmth are hallmarks of service. This experience has left me very disappointed and unlikely to recommend this place to others.

I hope the management of Raza Family Bar & Restaurant takes this feedback seriously and rethinks how they handle such situations...

I politely asked the staff at Raza Family Bar & Restaurant if we could use their facilities, but the cleaning staff flatly refused without any explanation. According to the Indian Sarais Act of 1867, the public is entitled to free access to water and restrooms at any hotel, especially in emergencies.

What made it worse was that this happened just 15 minutes before the restaurant’s opening time. The staff’s lack of courtesy and empathy was shocking. As a Goan, this kind of treatment is especially disappointing, and I wonder how non-Goans might be treated here. This level of hospitality is definitely not what I’m used to in South Goa.
