Started Off With A Very Refreshing Sarbath Followed By The Traditional Dishes Usually Served In Any Traditional Kerala House During This Auspicious Occasion.. Sambar, Rasam, Avail (Avial is basically a healthy mix of various vegetables in a coconut and yogurt sauce with a finishing of coconut oil and curry leaves), Thoran (dry vegetable dishes combined with coconut that originated in the Indian state of Kerala), Mambazha Pachadi (delicious combination of sweetness from mango and spiciness from chillies.), Parippu Vada (Parippu Vada is a form of fritters made with lentils, usually chana dal (Bengal Gram or Split Chickpea Lentils) and toor dal(Split Pigeon Peas), Matta Rice (RoseMatta rice (also known as Palakkadan/Kerala Matta rice, or Kaje Rice) (Malayalam: കേരള മട്ട, Tulu:കജെ അരി) is an indigenous variety of rice grown in the Palakkad district of Kerala, India), Nurukku Manga Achar (15 minute Kerala style instant pickle), Puli Inji (Puli Inji is a delicious tangy spicy gingery accompaniment made from fresh ginger, jaggery and green chillies.), Pappadum, Sarkari Upperi (Sharkara Upperi, in simpler words, 'sweet banana chips' are one of the traditional dish prepared in southern India during Onam Sadya. It is cooked using raw banana, jaggery, coconut oil, and cumin powder.) And Last But Not The Least Delicious Palada Pradhaman (Onam sadya is not complete without this rich delicious payasam or kheer which is made of rice and milk. Ada is the main ingredient in making this payasam.)

Read moreWhen we saw the menu we went prepared. For starters, we skipped breakfast. And then to further whet our appetite we went late.
But we were greeted by our hosts and a tiny glass of water. Aromatic summer-relieving brownish water that is infused with lemon elaichi and jaggery.
That is Panakkam. Right off the bat, we got the merest sense of what’s in store in terms of flavour harmony. For indeed that is what one wholeheartedly receives at the Sapaddu Sunday Tamil lunch pop up.
We sat down as the smooth green of the banana leaf received the initial offerings of podi , coconut chutney, banana chips and pickle. Munch away people.
Then came the mountains of soft light Matta rice topped with the outrageously marvellous sambar. A reverential silence fell upon us. It was a meditative meal and a veritable symphony of sensory inputs. With the rhythm of serving, the melody of Thyagaraja from non-premium Spotify and the harmony of flavours just exploding in your mouth.
Take the Chettinad Kara Kozhumbu for insantce. Spicy brinjal in tamarind curry. Take the Kozhumbu - again.
The servings are small to fit in alongside the other items. And so we felt oh this is easy. Little did we know...
Towards the end it was difficult to finish the perfectly cooling and spiced curd rice. And then one has to make space and some time for the tender coconut payasam with cashews and raisins.
By now we had adjusted our belts and gently slipped into a comfortable coma. We praised the cooks, the hosts, the abundance of nature and finally the genius of those who came up with these inspired inventions. Never again can you complain of a boring...
