Sussegado - Premium Goan Tasting Menu, Calangute — Restaurant in Goa

Sussegado is a restaurant on the main road somewhere after all the vegetarian restaurants end. It is house in a 150 year old house and run by the 4th generation house owners. Everything inside screams Old Goa. It was a residence converted into a restaurant as no one wanted to stay there. I dont know why. The menu is not extensive but at the same time not too sparse. If you are looking for non Goan food (Tandoor, etc) - this is not the place for you. There are some limited dishes but you would be disappointed I feel. If you want the flavor of Goa , this is the place for you. Alwyn the owner explained to me how he never dreamt of being the "master of all" and decided to stick to Goan food which he knows well. The food he says is all fresh and prepared after order and that might explain some of the negative comments regarding delays. If you are in Goa and have come to laze, you have no business being in a hurry and expecting food immediately on order. If you are hungry, you can ask Vinod for some light starters while you wait for the food. The food is excellent among the best of what I have tasted in Goa. The others in my group ordered prawns and fish while i had my favourite chorizzo pullao. All the food was excellent. The starters came with some home made sauce, but Alwyn seemed reluctant to share the recipe and I did not push it. Homemade desert was something with home made baileys and was really good so also other ones. My friends went there again the next day for lunch which talks about the quality. This has been our best accidental find in Calangute in August. We were heading to another restaurant for a meal, as we had skipped breakfast and were really hungry. My husband's eye caught this puneri style pati on which menu was written. Though it was not open yet at 11.45 AM, we thought of waiting for 15 min to eat, and the wait was totally worth it. We started with french fries and green salad as that was the quickest thing to arrive and we got our drinks. We placed our order, and restaurant started filling in. We ordered Chicken Cafreal, yummmmmmmm. First bite and, I was in love. Then we had Prawns Xacuti with their fresh buns, yumm yummm yumm. We were soo happy with Cafreal we ordered chef recommended prawns coriander, yummmmm again. One more bun plate as no one can eat just one right. And we finally ended with Goan peas pulav, wondering how can this simple pulav be soo delicious. The couple who run this place are absolutely passionate about what they are doing, and they and the staff take such good care of their customers. I am sure they would want to feed the whole town, but that is just not possible right. I feel bad for those who have missed eating here, or really don't know what good food is to give bad reviews to this place. My only regret was not clicking pictures for the memory. But we will be back to eat more. Cheers!!

1. Reach early or book a table for best experience.
2. Good and fresh food takes time. Have patience, order a drink and sussegado 😊

Food is so nice ...BUT....Please ensure that.!

We had food from there on 22-12-17 around between 1.30 pm to 2 p.m , We received bill for Rs.860/.

I kept my Debit card and the person who served had taken the bill and card to the counter then immediately came back and said need cash. I asked him the reason, he said swapping machine is not working. I asked him, you not even tried once, so can you try once and confirm it. He said; our manager said to get cash only. I spoke to the manager he said that machine is not working from yesterday. I told him either you would have inform the same with us before we placing the order or at least you should try once now. He said We are facing this network issue yesterday onwards so no need to check again. I told him that the network can be actived at any time so please check as it is very difficult to search ATM and get money now. Immediately I checked the swapping machine,I couldn't find any signal issue so I requested him for try at leat once. But he didn't agreed and started speaking rudely then we arranged money and paid because we already had our food .

Please aware...

He looks educated but if the swapping machine is not working, he should inform the same to the customer before they placing the order.If the customer is using only credit card means what will happen? Basic sense is enough to give a prior information to the customer.

Don't know whether he is a part of its management or not; still I have doubt on his behaviour.
