This used to be one of our favourite places in Panjim and very sad to see a massive drop in the quality of food.
Edit: normally, for substandard food I wouldn't go out of my way to write a review. The food was edible and would get about a 2-3 star review. The attitude of the owner is what got it a one star so I might as well elaborate as they have chosen to misrepresent the situation below.
The food arrived late and we were very hungry, so we ate it. And for a restaurant that was more than half empty it's surprising that it was so late.
All the yam yangs were oily and thin. The one that was reheated was EXTREMELY oily. Having eaten it more than 10 times in the past at thai n wok, and recommended it to tons of folk in Goa, we definitely didn't have anything against the place. It's unfortunate that the owner is unable to acknowledge feedback, especially from someone that is a repeat customer. It was never this oily and thin.
The owner took back the very oily yam yang and (after arguing with us about it) but STILL put it on the bill. And then when questioned about how he could charge us for something he took back without replacing, he made a scene about it.
We were then charged for several black label (whisky) drinks which we did not order.
They revised the bill a 3rd time and once again charged us for a black label.
One of the other dishes was very sweet and the morning glory was okish. We finished everything BECAUSE everything took a long time and we weren't willing to go through the process of going to another restaurant and ordering food and waiting for it.
Using the fact that we ate the food out of hunger (due to slow service) to justify things is simply not done. Nor is the owner's attitude towards feedback. Hopefully reading what he has written below helps you understand his approach to hospitality and feedback. This place was run by someone else previously and the food was amazing back then, and so was the hospitality!
** Edit 2: since the owner is outright lying now, about the billing issue. Let's unpack the other potential lies here:
seems very very unlikely that a restaurant that was mostly empty had 9 yam yang orders - a dish that most people aren't aware of. We only came to know about it thanks to a chat with the previous manager/owner, a very pleasant thai lady under whom the food quality and the hospitality were both amazing. If you're reading this, and haven't heard of the dish before - you'll realise how unlikely it was that there were 9 orders for this.
it's also served on a grill plate that used to be heated. So his whole explanation about that part also does not make sense (another example of the drop in quality)
Lastly, if you do walk into the restaurant you'll notice that it's probably more than half empty - as it was when we went, on a weekend night. This probably has a lot to do with this person's attitude. Which is what made me write the review in the first place.
The only reason the whole hospitality thing was brought up, was because of how inhospitable he was. It's so strange that he tries to use this as some sort of justification for the poor service/behaviour.
To the owner: If someone complains about food at a restaurant, you either take it back and fix it, or take it off the bill. Rather than engage in this behaviour. Your place used to be packed on the weekend. We used to have to call in advance to get a reservation. Now it's empty. Perhaps learning to be a slightly more gracious host might help more than trying to justify things like this - you've only succeeded in making yourself look worse...
Read moreMy friend recommended this place as he wanted me to try the Thai cuisine and I couldn’t have picked a better spot for my first real taste of Thai flavours!
We were warmly welcomed with their specially crafted mouth freshener before lunch, a small but thoughtful touch that set the tone for the rest of the meal.
We started with the prawns garlic stir fry, which came sizzling hot, fragrant, and packed with flavor—the perfect way to wake up the taste buds.
The Pad Thai had that perfect sweet-sour harmony and the noodles were cooked to a springy perfection. The Green Curry with jasmine rice was rich and aromatic, with fresh vegetables soaking up every drop of that coconuty goodness.
As someone who enjoys tasting different tea flavors, I was excited to see Jasmine tea on the menu—a first for me. Luckily, it turned out to be wonderfully soothing, pairing perfectly with the meal and adding to the overall relaxing experience.
The mango sticky rice was just a perfect blend of sweetness, with ripe mango and silky coconut-infused rice that rounded off the meal beautifully.
What really stood out was the staff! Anok was friendly, genuinely welcoming and impressively knowledgeable about the menu. He offered great pairing suggestions and even gave a quick crash course on spice levels, which turned out to be spot-on. Service was attentive without being pushy, and you could tell he and the other staff took pride in making guests feel at home.
The interior is cozy, decorated with traditional Thai accents and soft lighting that makes it ideal for a relaxed meal.
A delightful spot especially if you’re wanting to try the authentic Thai cuisine and value warm hospitality as much as bold, aromatic flavors. This place is great to start with!! My friend’s tip...
Read moreThai N Wok, situated in Miramar, Panjim right next to Goa Mariott’s, is the brainchild of Chef Dew & Warren Vaz, who make it a point to be involved in every aspect for one to have a Thai dining experience like never before. ✨
Thai Cuisine strives to find the perfect balance of salty, sweet, spicy & sour in every meal! I started right off with some Miang Kham; aka a betel leaf wrapped with a combination of signature Thailand ingredients such as lemon grass, ginger, etc. For those who don’t know, this is how people from Thailand welcome guests into their homes! ☺️
Coming to the food, for starters I tried out some of the bestsellers: Deep fried Shrimp & Steamed Prawn Wontons, which were yum! Coming to the main course; I tried two of their combo meals: Phad Ko Pao; which is a Thai Basil aka the Holy Basil, spicy Beef stir-fry that tasted super peppery, and paired well with the rice & a Thai style fried egg served alongside. Another combo I tried was the Kai Yad Sai; a Thai style omelette that’s stuffed with ground chicken & vegetables such as carrots, tomatoes & shallots, that’s cooked in fish sauce, sugar, soy sauce, & pepper, till succulent! This savoury chicken-filled Thai dish is famous in Thailand & can be found on every second street-food vendor! This was personally my favourite dish at Thai N Wok, cause the flavour was just perfect. ❤️
By the end of the meal, I was too full to try out any of their deserts, however this is one of those places you need to visit to witness true flavours of Thailand 🇹🇭
The quantity & quality of food for the price they serve is really good; as most of the herbs & veggies from their very own farm! ✅
Make sure to share with someone who you’d wanna try fresh, authentic, home style...
