I advice you to NOT have breakfast at Food Station. Here's why-
Taste- -medu wada: In one bowl, they serve one medu wada which does not have a hole. The wada is pre soaked and so the salt inside the wada is washed off, so the wada is almost tasteless from inside. The south indian chutney and sambar that they serve with wada also has no taste because they don't put enough salt or spice in them. The podi is the only thing that had taste in it- spicy but saltless- so it felt like i was eating soggy wada with lots of podi and tasteless chutney. It was one of the worst South Indian I have ever eaten. Had to eat a REAL medu wada at a lawry at one fifth the price right after going here to forget what I had just eaten. -Uttapam: uttapam was another nightmare. It was too thick, which meant it's upper side was left under cooked. The uttapam was also covered in too much podi and had no salt. It felt like i was eating partially cooked tasteless batter covered in podi instead of uttapam. -Idli: Idli was normal looking but tasted below average. It felt undercooked as it stuck to teeth while chewing and again idli had no salt. Possibly they use the same batter for medu wada and idli which was the reason for sticky idli. -Dosa: Dosa(which was not on their menu on a Sunday) is their only saving grace. It was crispy and thin and had adequate salt. The dosa was quite good but only slightly better than average.
Quantity- one plate of medu wada has ONE medu wada. uttapam was too small in size, although they could argue that 'even though it is small, it is thick!'. But that is not a good thing! Quantity for idli and dosa was fair.
Staff behaviour- the people serving food seemed to be the owner and were well behaved. Its the way they run the place that is the problem. Firstly they don't cook every item everyday, so u r left guessing what they will cook on a specific day. Secondly, even though they had enough vadas, they refused to serve more than a certain number of vadas to a single customer because they care more abt the customer who is not yet present than the customer who is actually present in their restaurant. This offended me the most about them.
Ambience- it's a small shop. It does not have enough parking space nearby so one has to park on road side to visit this place. The plastic chairs here are small and siting arrangement is hardly comfortable. They are a small shop which means they might not have enough money to buy steel spoons which means they use plastic a lot, which is not environment friendly.
Price- High for such bad tasting food. As of end of Nov 2018, price of one plate of idli or wada was 50 rs per plate.
I would not recommend this place. Probably eat fresh south Indian breakfast somewhere near vastrapur or probably Vaibhav in the morning. Even cooking at home is more advisable than wasting money and taste buds at...
Read moreAs i was living around this area for some years ago, my visit to this place was for occasionally. Whenever i passed by around this place, it always remained crowded no matter what day it was, just people waiting for their turns. Even in the early hours of the morning, this place is packed. They open this shop in the early hours of morning for like 6:30 AM and till 10 AM on many times their stock would get emptied on early occasions too. This business is run by the family. Currently, they've limited their menu and discontinued the uttapams and medu vadas's servings on weekends. It's a bit costly for breakfast, but worth it for what they're serving is the quality. I must say that until now, they've maintained the quality of their food. Their most selling item is Idli sambhar, costing 70/- for 2 pcs [with podi masala on top of it Is like butter in the bun maska], which gave a total enhancement in the flavour of Idli sambhar Other than that Podi Masala dosa [Ghee] was highly recommended in orders. It was amazingly good, just soaked & drenched with ghee and podi masala. Personally, i find the chutney is underrated apart from their podi masala. It was that good. Talking about pricing for 190, it was heavy in the spending, but all the money was on that podi masala, which made this place so popular amongst the South Indian food enthusiast on even in early mornings for like in 7 AM you will find a heavy rush on...
