A Delightful Dining Experience at Govinda’s
My long-awaited visit to Govinda’s, located next to the serene ISKON Temple, was a delightful experience that deserves a glowing review. Visiting on a weekday was a stroke of luck, as it allowed me to enjoy the restaurant’s offerings without the usual weekend rush. The combination of exceptional food quality, vibrant ambiance, and a family-friendly atmosphere made this a memorable dining experience, despite a few minor hiccups.
Ambiance and Setting Govinda’s ambiance is a standout feature. Situated adjacent to the tranquil ISKON Temple, the restaurant exudes a calm and welcoming vibe, perfect for family dinners or meals with parents and grandparents. The interiors are tastefully designed, blending traditional charm with modern comfort, creating an inviting space that enhances the dining experience. The serene surroundings and spiritual backdrop made every moment feel special, setting the tone for a relaxed and enjoyable meal.
The Food – A Culinary Treat The food at Govinda’s was the highlight, with most dishes showcasing top-notch quality and flavor. We started with the Nachos Grande, which, while slightly pricey for the portion size, delivered on taste with its crispy texture and fresh ingredients. The Manchow Soup and Wonton Soup were both comforting and flavorful, perfect starters for the meal. The Chaat Platter was a crowd-pleaser, bursting with authentic flavors and vibrant spices – an absolute must-try!
For the main course, we ordered Veg Kolhapuri, which was spicy and well-balanced, paired perfectly with Missi Roti, Naan, and Tandoori Roti, all of which were impeccably cooked with a delightful texture. The Pizza was a pleasant surprise – crispy, well-cooked, and topped with fresh veggies and generous cheese, it was a hit with everyone at the table. The BOB (Basket of Bread) was a fun addition, though not the star of the meal. To wash it all down, we had Buttermilk, which was refreshing and authentic. The most amazing thing was, non of the food had garlic or onions, but everything tasted awesome!
The only disappointment was the Green Mocktail, which fell below expectations in both taste and value for money. It lacked the vibrancy of the other dishes and felt overpriced.
Service and Pricing The service, while friendly, was a tad slow, which slightly disrupted the flow of the meal. However, the staff’s warmth and attentiveness made up for it to some extent. Pricing at Govinda’s leans toward the higher side, especially when considering portion sizes for dishes like the Nachos Grande. That said, the exceptional quality and taste of the food justified the cost, making it a worthwhile indulgence for a special outing.
Conclusion Govinda’s is a gem for family dining, offering a menu that caters to diverse palates, from traditional Indian to fusion dishes. The ambiance, enhanced by its proximity to the ISKON Temple, creates a unique and heartwarming experience. Despite minor drawbacks like slow service and average mocktails, the outstanding food quality, vibrant flavors, and welcoming atmosphere make it a must-visit. I’m already looking forward to my next visit to Govinda’s for another round of delicious food and...
Read moreWe visited this place last month with a bunch of our foodie friends.
We went there for dinner and we were 7 friends so booked a cottage instead of going for ala carte. So maximum of 8 people in a group can book a cottage and can avail unlimited food and drinks by paying 6000 rs. The only condition is one cannot waste food and cannot do take away of left overs. This place serves food without onion and garlic.
We ordered a lot of dishes over here and yes we did not waste it.
We ordered 4 different types of soups- Manchow, Sweet corn, Rasam minestrone and Broccoli cheddar All the soups were very good. Without onion and garlic also , the soups were made well. They were thick, flavourful with required spices.
We tried many starters as well. 7 layered mexican shots, Quesadilla, Falafels , Green pea hummus, Crispy ravioli and Chaat platter.
7 layered mexican shots was the starter suggested by the staff as their usp which did not taste well at all. Chaat platter was good but we felt quantity was less compared to the price. Crispy ravioli did not have any filling and lacked flavour. We loved the falafal a lot for which we can visit this place again.
We tried mocktails while having our main course. Loved the kala khatta mocktail. Refreshing and the tangy taste of the drink made our day. We get better Frozen margharita in Ahmedabad at other places in lesser price. So this did not appeal much.
We were so full and wanted to try more desserts so didn’t order much in main course. The usual Masala papad with Chimichurri rice and Fantasy Pizza was all that we ordered.
Chimichuri Rice with Cottage cheese is an amazing one @govindas. The coriander rice and the curry went so well , perfectly balanced. The pizza had mint chutney and it was not mentioned at all in the menu. So what was served to us and what was mentioned- both the things were different.
For desserts we ordered- Gajar halwa , Paan gulkand phirni and Kala jamun which wad good. The usual nothing extra ordinary Sizzling browine was good but we wish quantity was more. Cheesecake vita marie failed miserably to impress us.
We have been to Govindas outlet in Juhu, Mumbai 2-3 years ago for lunch and had a great time.
We had an Entire cottage to ourselves and laughed at the top of our voices, what an amazing evening indeed. We wish the food served was great as well. The staff needs a lot of training. We asked them to place food outside the cottage in another area so that we can click good pictures but one of the staff said “its common sense that if they place food there then it will get cold” . We of course knew that food will get cold but this kind of comment was not required by the staff. One should learn to use words wisely is...
Read moreExcellent, Sumptuous! Great ambience, great food quality, unbelievable quantity for the price! Govinda offers multi-cuisine Vaishnava custom (no onions or garlic) dishes in a spacious restaurant located on the premises of the ISKCON Temple. There are separate private dining areas as well as the regular dining halls. The staff is very courteous. The first look at the restaurant impresses upon you that you are visiting a fine dining place, not your run of the mill eatery. Do not confuse it with the fast food court nearby. Once inside, the first thing you will notice is the fragrance that you will usually find in Vaishnava temples and havelis. The variety on offer ranges from North Indian Chaat and Punjabi fare to Pizzas, Pasta, and Oriental dishes. We tried the Oriental dishes, which were so well made that we didn't even notice that the "usual ingredients" of "Chinese food", i.e. Onions and garlic were totally missing. The quantity of each dish is good enough for at least two people, and usually three, so be careful when you order (and better consult the staff), because the dishes cost around Rs. 250-350 each. However, the quantity and quality more than justify the price. The same quality and ambience in a fully commercial restaurant would be at twice the price. The mocktails. Oh, the mocktails. The Frozen Peach mocktail is a mountain of Peach Sorbet that will take two people to finish it. When you leave the restaurant, the staff will say goodbye with Hare Krishna. I'm sure you'll reciprocate with a hearty Hare...
