Woodpecker Food Plaza — Restaurant in Haldwani

A wonderful property with sprawling lawns and a large dining area accompanied with excellent food from soup to starters to main course and great mojitos made it a memorable experience. A must visit.

Visited for a spot of lunch. Ordered one Kingfisher Beer, Talumein Soup, Chicken Sizzler, Chicken Noodles and Fruit Punch. Observations as under : Beer served in the Bar section - nothing to comment. Talumein Soup was really good. Chicken Sizzler - even before we could pick up our soup spoons to eat the soup, the Chicken Sizzler was on the table. The Noodles followed soon after. On asking for the Main Course to be served after eating our soup, irrelevant items were removed. On asking for the Sizzler, THE SAME SIZZLER WHICH HAD BEEN BROUGHT 30 MINUTES BACK WAS PRESENTED & REJECTED ! AS TO WHY THE SIZZLER WAS NOT SIZZLING, THE ANSWER WAS " Nahin Hota Hai". Further no type of sauce was served with the Sizzler, which along with a bed of cereals - rice / noodles normally constitutes a sizzler - Continental. While the food was good, the unprofessional handling of service was a real let down . To compound matters on receiving the final bill, I had to point out that my beer had not been added - later rectified. Vishal, my request is that you're running one of the best restaurant's in Haldwani, a little more supervision would help in ironing out these...

This restaurant has totally horrible service , they don’t even know what they are serving in the name of neapolitan pizza , you cant even raise your concern bcz the owner is extremely rude , he fought with us for just 400Rs and was claiming that we cant afford the amount of Rs400 that is why we are complaining about the service , basically they provided us wrong information about the liquor and when we addressed the issue the owner was just yelling at us and was not ready to listen a single word , he even pointed finger towards us claiming that we cant afford extra Rs400 that is why we are creating a chaos , even the co-owner and manager was just charging towards us over the small issue . Completely disappointing experience from the 4* rated restaurant , i guess these all stars are paid promotions. I advice not to visit their restaurant until you want a bad experience. The thing that shooked me that owner himself was extremely rude and self-centred and was yelling at us and was screaming that you are not anyone to tell me what to do and what to not.Completely disappointing experience and will never vist them...

Edit: cuisine is not what it used to be. It's alright for the price point, i suppose. Then again, i eat a lot healthier and have a more demanding and refined palate now. We mostly visit for the bar now. I have been coming to Woodpecker for about 20 years now. It was considered to be the closest you could get to fine dining in the quaint town of Haldwani back in the day.

Over the last few years many cafés & restaurants have come up but none have been able to retain their food quality for more than six months.

Woodpecker has been able to maintain both its food quality and its understated ambience over all these years. This restaurant falls firmly in the category of a family restaurant rather than a casual hangout with friends or your date.

The lunch hours are surprisingly quiet and peaceful - especially in the winters when sunlight pours through the French Windows.

My only gripe perhaps is the polymer feel of the tissue wipes - they should consider using paper based wipes.
