It has been quite some time since I last wrote a restaurant review, but I finally feel compelled to share my thoughts on a particular establishment. The restaurant in question is Hummus House, a Mediterranean-themed eatery that caters exclusively to vegetarians. Located on the bylane of Road No. 12 in Banjara Hills, Hummus House can easily go unnoticed. It's not visible from the main road unless you take a moment to observe your surroundings. To find it, look for the landmark across from Pizza Hut on Road No. 12. While valet parking is available, there is no designated parking area for the restaurant, so most cars are parked in the bylane, where traffic is minimal. From the outside, Hummus House is well-lit and visually appealing within the bylane. Accessible via a small staircase with approximately six steps, the large wooden door opens up to a seating area with a pleasant ambiance. The interior strikes a balance between brightness and dimness, creating a visually pleasing atmosphere. We opted for seating on the left side of the restaurant, which offered a mix of bar-style and table seating. The lights, wrapped in a wooden mesh, added a beautiful touch to the decor. Upon being seated, we were handed two separate menus: one for beverages and another for food. The menus were bound together with a brown, hard paper clip, reminiscent of an office-style presentation. While the menu wasn't extensive, considering the restaurant's focus on Mediterranean cuisine, each category offered a decent selection of dishes. However, I noticed that the famous Tzatziki dip, commonly associated with Mediterranean cuisine, was conspicuously absent as a side accompaniment to the dishes. Additionally, the menu featured a mix of Italian and Mediterranean dishes, possibly to cater to the limited vegetarian options in the Mediterranean menu. Now, let's delve into our order: Jalapeno Hummus: A delightful variation of traditional hummus, incorporating the spicy kick of jalapeno peppers. Served with three varieties of pita: Toasted Pita Chips: A delightful and crunchy snack made from pita bread, serving as a popular alternative to traditional potato chips. Zaatar Pita: A delectable Middle Eastern specialty featuring pita bread generously coated with a mixture of zaatar, olive oil, and complementary ingredients, offering a flavorful and satisfying snack with a crispy base. Garlic Pita: Infused with the bold and distinct flavor of garlic, providing a crispy base for the hummus. What I missed the most here was plain Pita Bread, which should be soft, tender, and lightly coated with olive oil—a delightful option that was unfortunately absent. Tabbouleh Salad: A refreshing combination of wheat, finely chopped fresh parsley, tomatoes, mint leaves, green onions, topped with olive oil and served with a side of lemon. This salad boasts a harmonious balance of flavors and textures. Falafel Bites: Bite-sized morsels made from a mixture of ground chickpeas, herbs, and spices, deep-fried or baked to perfection. The falafel bites struck the right balance—not overly crispy or crumbly—and were truly enjoyable. Cheese Nachos: Loads of melted yellow cheese atop crispy nachos, garnished with grated cheese, red and green bell peppers, and served with a spicy sauce. The nachos and cheese felt fresh and crispy. Cilantro Rice: A flavorful blend of cilantro-infused rice mixed with corn, peppers, topped with fresh lettuce, black olives, ripe tomatoes, and carefully placed in the middle of the plate. The rice was surrounded by a red sauce, allowing diners to mix each bite with the sauce or enjoy it plain. Alfredo Pasta: Penne pasta with a creamy white sauce, topped with black olives and ripe tomatoes, served with a side of garlic bread. The white sauce was fresh, creamy, and served piping hot, melting in our mouths. Cheese Manakish: A soft and fluffy dough, similar to pizza dough, topped with melted cheese to create a slightly crispy texture. Finished with a drizzle of olive oil, fresh herbs, and Zaatar, and served with a...
Read moreThis place immediately grabbed my attention when I got to know that they serve pure veg Mediterranean cuisine!
I made a reservation through Swiggy but upon reaching could not get seat for 10-15 mins. They were clearly overwhelmed by the crowd that day but then somehow arranged a seat for us.
We started with their Meal for two, which had good quantity, enough for 3. We got the classic pita bread replaced with the Za'atar Pita bread which was really good. The hummus and the falafel balls were also good. We then went for their Padana Pizza which was really good with the evergreen spinach and cheese combination!
We then ordered Lasagna, forgetting in that moment that it takes time to bake! 🙆♂️ We waited for about half an hour for it, 10 mins extra because one batch got spoilt somehow. It was good but I think not worth the wait😅. I wanted to try their popular Baklava but sadly it was not available so tried their Sizzling Brownie with ice cream which was good.
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who likes Mediterranean cuisine or who wants to try something new. People who love the chillies and want something masaledaar will definitely not relish it.
P.S It was definitely an off day for the staff but still the host which looked after us was very gracious and extremely apologetic about serving the Lasagna so late. Also, I felt he did a tremendous job in handling the chaos that day, hence the 5 stars...
