If you're looking for a lovely, no frills south indian breakfast get-together with a bunch of old friends, or even family then this is one of the best options you could come across this side of the city. Authentic Rayalaseema dosa idly Pongal place.
They have got ample parking for cars and bikes. Plus, it is situated right opposite a lovely park that you could head to after having a sumptuous idli dosa Pongal coffee breakfast. Would have been perfect if they also had vada, poori, but then could have slowed down service.
We went in at 8am when there was barely a crowd. Ideal time to get there as it starts to get jam packed around 10am.
Seating options were a bit wonky with a mix of regular table seats, high chairs, benches and stools. Point is you might not get the kind of seating arrangement you'd like unless you wait for it.
Service is a bit slower than expected with idlis and ghee karam idlies getting ready in under 5 mins but dosa dishes take 10 mins and uthapam takes 20. Be prepared to hear your bill number called out as you'll have to pause and go collect your order. The taste of the dishes were yummy! Absolutely worth it.
Be prepared to pay 200 rupees per person for a good breakfast with coffee. Once you're done here, head over to the park opposite, get a few rounds of walk, then sit on one of those park benches and have a good chat with your...
Read moreA South Indian breakfast place that is a fast-paced self-service place. They run out of chutney during the end of their service times, so be sure to head there with enough time.
What I've had:
Plain Idli - soft, served hot with a generous amount of chutney on the side
Ghee Karam Idli -sprinkled with podi and ghee soaking into the idli
Ghee Karam Dosa - Karam and ghee smeared on the inside of the dosa, while it is being cooked
Neyyi Palyam Dosa - their signature dish, that's spicy and tangy and a must-try, if you go here
Upma Dosa - Dosa with broken wheat upma, that's added into the dosa while still on the pan and wrapped around the upma when its served
Pongal - served in porridge consistency, this Pongal is topped with ghee and filled with peppercorns for a burst of flavor
Ghee Karam Onion Dosa - similar to the karma dosa, but with chopped onions on the inside
Nannnri - syrup made using the nannari herb added to soda for a cooling effect
All items are served with coconut chutney, tomato chutney, and Bombay chutney, and are self-service. Their service is quite fast, most of the time is taken up at the counter to pay and get a receipt to...
Read moreI visited Panchakattu in the evening. I have been there many times and have enjoyed the food on every visit. However, this time was definitely a big flop.
Initially, we ordered idly, which was nice in texture and taste, but the chutney had a different flavor compared to previous visits — and it wasn’t good. Later, we ordered three types of dosas, but at the token counter, it was incorrectly entered, and we received only 1 plain dosa and 1 karam dosa.
When the dosas were served, they came on very unhygienic and seemingly unwashed plates. Although the plates had banana leaves, there were visible stains on them. When we raised this concern, we didn’t receive any proper response from the staff.
My main concern is that the staff maintenance and service were not up to standard. I feel that having a dedicated manager to address customer concerns would make a big difference. The person we tried to speak with was busy taking orders, so it’s unclear whether he fully understood our concerns.
Additionally, the valet parking was poorly managed. The staff did not assist with the vehicles exiting, which led to unnecessary delays at the entry and...
