Winterfell Cafe is a cozy little Cafe situated in a bylane along the Boulevard road around Dal lake in Srinagar. Though not a GoT fan, I just wanted to experience this themed Cafe in Srinagar and hence had it bookmarked among the list of places to visit when in Kashmir.
Coincidently, it worked out really well after our visit to the Shankaracharya temple, we were super hungry and the cafe was just 10-12 mins away. We drove down and reached the place extremely hungry and eager to experience what Winterfell was all about. Though situated in a lane near Ghat no.5 and going up the first floor of a bldg(above Fat Panda restaurant), it's quite easy to locate it with Google maps and all the signboards there.
As we entered, we were greeted with the famous Iron throne and a few stools connected to GoT. There were lots of quotes and dialogues framed and put up on the walls too. Seating was comfortable and it wasn't crowded, though people kept walking in later.
The menu, we saw wasn't too big but just enough of Cafe food like pizzas, sandwiches, pasta, sandwiches etc. We called for the largest pizza topped with lots of exotic veggies followed by a corn and cheese sandwich with fries on the side. The food took a little while to come but tasted great.
We ended the meal with a Winterfell special ice cream bowl which were just two scoops of ice cream garnished with nuts and syrup. This one could really have been made better. At a themed Cafe, one really looks out for the special stuff on the menu, and it can get a bit disappointing when it is just the usual thing.
Pricing was fine and service, though a little slow was quite warm and friendly. They seem to be working on expanding and I'm sure it's going to get bigger and better in the future. Wish you all...

Read moreFirst of all, we didn't understand why there was a table directly in front of the "Iron throne" and 5 people sat there, me sitting on the throne. The only other available table was in direct sunlight and as is the restaurant was hot and stuffy. Then, people wanted to talk photos (which is understandable) and I was just standing there as the other side of our table is the aisle.
The dude came up to and said they are having two events that's why the table is set up that way. Wait. If you are having events in your restaurant why is it open to public?
As usual people started almost climbing onto our table with their cameras to take photos, while my poor friends and family was trying to have a drink.
Then the owner moved our table to a side. Good move. But as we were moved the crowd near the throne grew bigger and the swords and axes started being swung about and that dude started making side comments to keep it down as we might complain again (one of my party even got hit). Like we went to their establishment for the first time in our life - to complain.
Then comes the food. We found stuff in the drink that they couldn't explain. Felt like hard bits that felt like plastics which was found in coffee. We were essentially made to feel as though we had planted the substances to make trouble. The watermelon lavender (as suggested by our waiter with very poor English skills) was undrinkable. The green apple mojito tasted like lime water. The rasberry (their spelling) slush was nothing close to that.
Yes, he had the kind gesture of giving us a 200 INR discount (that's why 2 stars not 1) but again, if you are not local, don't go there. It felt like they cater more to the locals...
