Gypsy restaurant is perfect example of "Naam bade aur darshan chhote". Gypsy is such an over hyped restaurant that it gave me & my family, the worst unforgettable experience of our lives. Its staff defies the sayings of " Atithi devo bhawa" or "Padharo mhare des". Read full to know the incident. I had heard about this restaurant and also checked the ratings which forced me to try this restaurant. So during my vacation trip to Jodhpur in the month of December 2023, I decided to visit this restaurant with my family. We reached there around 5:45pm and came to know that there is a waiting of 20-30 min. We wanted to try it, so we waited for around 30 min. (My name can be found in their waiting guest list of 26th Dec 2023 around 5:45pm). We got the entry at 6:10pm and got a table for four. We got seated and was waiting that someone will come to take our order. Their staff on the floor were mainly cleaning staff who were busy in cleaning the tables. The order serving person seemed to be only one (short height fatty guy) for the whole floor and was busy in chit chatting with others. 10 min past and no one came. My backside table person shouted to call the waiter. Then that serving person came in our row in hurry and when that guest asked for traditional Rajasthani food he said that it will be available after 7pm. I turned to him and asked "ohh Rajasthani food not available?".. And in hurry he went away replying no rajasthani food right now. Ok no problem.. we were willing to order something else and waited for another 10 min but no one came. A staff person came and placed two water bottles (without glasses) and went away telling that order will be taken by that one person (mentioned earlier). We were trying to wave hand to that one person, but he was so busy in chit chat and other things that he never saw us. So now after a waiting time of half an hour outside and now half an hour inside, my families patience got over. We were hungry and willing to order something but no one was bothered to cater us. My daughter who was thirsty already drank half a bottle of water. So we stood up and decided to leave the place. As soon as I reached the door to exit, a person came running to the serving person telling him that water bottle bill needs to be charged from us. Now that one person (who was busy in chit chat and all other things) gave me full attention and asked to pay for water. That was amazing Gypsy service that guest is walking away without food and instead of asking what happened, he was asking to pay for water. This was the height. I asked him that when I was sitting there for past half an hour waiting for someone to take my order, where were you? Is this there kind of service you people provide? My tone was quite high (and justified why). All staff were listening but no one was apologetic about this, and they simply not dared to ask again (to pay for water) and I came out. What a pathetic experience. We wasted an hour and still we were hungry. What will the food taste will do if no one has sense of service. If things do not improve, I am sure restaurant will move towards shutting down the business in...
Read moreStepping into Gypsy Vegetarian Restaurant in Sardarpura, Jodhpur, feels like uncovering a local culinary treasure. Tucked away in a vibrant part of the city, easily accessible yet offering a pleasant escape from the bustling streets, this place truly lives up to its reputation. The ambiance is warm and welcoming, perfectly setting the stage for what promises to be an authentic Rajasthani dining experience.
My recent visit was centered around their legendary Rajasthani Thali, and let me tell you, it was an absolute feast for the senses. The sheer scale of it – a grand spread boasting an incredible 33 different items – was breathtaking. From the moment the thali arrived, laden with a kaleidoscope of colors and aromas, I knew I was in for something special.
Every single dish on that platter was a testament to the rich culinary heritage of Rajasthan. The daals were perfectly spiced, the vegetable preparations offered a delightful variety of textures and flavors, and the rotis and puris were served fresh and hot. The famous Gatte ki Sabzi was rich and flavorful, and the churma was decadently sweet, providing a perfect balance to the savory elements. What truly stood out was the consistently delicious and authentic taste across all items; nothing felt out of place or generic. Each bite was a delightful discovery, showcasing the subtle complexities of traditional spices and cooking methods.
It’s more than just a meal; it’s an immersive cultural experience. For anyone visiting Jodhpur and looking to truly savor the essence of Rajasthani vegetarian cuisine, Gypsy Vegetarian Restaurant is an absolute must-visit. You’ll leave feeling incredibly satisfied and with a profound appreciation for the flavors of...
Read moreThe best thali I have ever had, first of all, the no. of items in the thali, there were more than 50 of them, one's appetite can get fulfilled even if she/he tastes all of them and moreover all the dishes were traditional rajasthani. Secondly, the quality, authenticity and taste of every single item in the thali meets the highest standard, even the less important side dishes such as chutneys and pickles, they are the best one can make, only desi ghee is being used here. Third, the service and presentation, Modern ambience of the dining room, served in a large brass thali which is too heavy, all the bowls, fork, spoon are of brass, feels like having a vintage dinner in a modern place which is a unique experience, while comparing with other restaurants like haveli where you get the same theme everywhere, be it food and the surroundings. The service was good 9/10 marks, first the starters were served in the same thali and then gradually shifting to the main dishes, I deducted one mark because they tend to forget to serve some of the items because the no. of items is large and every thali seems to be filled. Lastly, the packaging is awesome, if we takeout, hatts-off to them, they are not using plastic, the boxes were spill proof bio-degradable, spoons, forks, of bamboo, no rubber bands, also the outside packaging was not poly-ethene but some different biodegradable material. I want to mention some dishes which I liked most - Dal-bhati, wheat...
