Honest Review of Sunset Cafe (4-Night Stay)
I recently stayed at Sunset Cafe for four nights, and here’s my honest experience:
Let's talk about pros 1st :
Room Upgrade & Discount: I initially booked a cozy standard non AC room via Airbnb for ₹2,700 per night. After staying for two nights, I decided to upgrade to a deluxe cottage costing ₹3,200 per night. Sandy kindly offered a ₹400 discount, which I truly appreciated.
Friendly staff : The staff were polite, approachable, and helpful, which added a positive touch to our stay.
Cons to keep in mind :
Poor Wi-Fi Connection : The Wi-Fi was extremely weak. Even streaming a basic YouTube video was difficult. Despite raising a complaint, there was no improvement. I believe a stable Wi-Fi connection is an essential part of hospitality, and this was disappointing.
Noisy Fan : The fan in the room was quite noisy, making it hard to sleep peacefully. Although I didn’t raise this issue with the staff because I was upgrading my room , it did affect my comfort.
Unhygienic Kitchen: I happened to see the kitchen through a window, and it looked quite dirty. The cookware, especially the tawa and kadai, was not clean. After seeing that, I lost my appetite. Given the high food prices, I expected better hygiene standards. After knowing about their kitchen on the last day of my trip, I decided not to eat at their cafe .
Overcharging on Food: I was surprised when they charged us ₹700 for one King Fish fry, but when we repeated the order, they charged ₹750 for the same dish. At the time of billing, I pointed it out, and they corrected it, but this wasn’t expected. It also made me wonder what would have happened if I hadn’t checked the bill, as sometimes I don’t.
Considering the rates they charge for their rooms, they could at least provide a kettle and a few tea sachets, which is something I had expected.
Final Thoughts:
I’m sorry, Sandy, but I couldn’t give you the 5-star review you requested. Initially, I wasn’t planning to write any review because of the discount you gave us, but after this experience, I felt it was important to share honest feedback.
I hope these points help improve the experience for...
Read moreI have come across this resort online and was a little hesitant after I booked thinking if did I choose the right place or no. Immediately after I have booked got a call if I remeber confirming my booking and also sent out all the information such as local places to see, about the property, bike rentals, car rentals, contacts of several people who could assist with anything that we might need when in Gokarna. When I have arrived at the location where the road ends and from there I heard all guests needs to walk in the beach to get to the property which i thought is a hassle. As there is no road access until the property. I hwve immediately called the number available and I guess it was Mr. Sandeep (Manager) who answered and immediately offered to send help with my bag, when I was waiting Mr Sandeep was going back to the property after his morning walk saw me and immediately carried the bag by himself with no hesitation instead of keeping me wait until the help arrives. As I have arrived early had to wait for room and was given the room by 10AM which was very helpful for me to rest instead of waiting till the actual check in time as I have been travelling.
Room & Bathroom A simple setup yet cozy and clean with a nice bed to rest. They do have rooms with Air Condition and without.
Cafe Is a fantastic place to just sit and relax or work and the pleasant vibe in the evening is amazing
Team Everyone are approachable and ready to help and to name a few Mr Sandeep - Manager Mr Rajesh - Who had assisted with almost everything during my stay. Arranging the bike, late check out, early check in and most importantly Carrying the bags walking in the beach for about 200 or 300 mts I guess Mr Sadeep from Cafe, We both had a great chat for some time, young and ambitious person
We can also walk to the main temple in the same beach which is about 15 mins walk or 20 mins for those who wish to walk coukd try this. However, recommended to do it early hours when the sun is still calm.
Overall I personally like the property and would not hesitate to return when I...
