I visited the place for 2 reasons: being an avid coffee lover and the hype on Instagram. The place has 3 parts: the coffee purchase section, the coffee experience section & the cafe. P.S: They also provide a tour through their plantation and processing centre which I believe is a wonderful experience (however, we missed out on this due to a shortage of time)
Purchase Section: They have various brewing equipment, coffee powders (both for traditional filter and espresso-based brews), spices and a few other bites. Coffee Experience Section: It has an aroma wall which gives you whiffs of various stages of coffee processing. The section also has an interactive wall (a very interesting concept) The Cafe: It serves beverages and quick bites. According to the cafe manager, their menu of quick eats isn't fixed; you get whatever is available on display.
Products/Food: Filter Coffee: I would say the filter is as authentic as it can get. It was quite good. Americano: The Americano was decent like any other well-brewed Americano. However, what surprised me was that (according to the manager) the cafe served only espresso-based drinks and didn't serve brews made with Aeropress, French Press or other non-espresso brewing methods. I couldn't find it on the menu as well. (Perhaps they are an exclusive part of the coffee tasting experience or another menu) Apple Pie served with Ice Cream: The apple pie was good, nothing out of the ordinary. This is only because I have tasted better apple pies. Else the flavour of apple was there, the crust was a bit soft. For someone who has not tasted authentic apple pies, go for it. Coffee Panna Cotta: A very interesting dish. It was garnished with what I think was coffee jelly and a coffee crumble. The Panna Cotta was set well and it was delicious. I loved it! Coffee Powders: There are 5 blends available: extra strong, strong, medium (2) & light. I purchased a couple of the blends; they seemed interesting. There is no mention of any of the accompanying coffee notes though. However, I made a couple of brews from the premium strong blend, they tasted pretty good with a dark chocolate bitterness. So, all in all, it was good.
Ambience: We visited the place on a weekday, hence the place was quiet and welcoming. The place is well maintained and is apt if you are looking to spend time in a cafe.
Service and Staff: The staff was very courteous with all our orders. However, the manager seemed to be new and not sure of certain things. Did not hamper the experience though! :P
Value for money: The coffee is priced at par with most cafes of similar ambience.
Overall, we enjoyed the...
Read moreDiscovered this place by accident as we were looking for a decent place to eat in our impromptu trip to Chikkamagalur. Was immediately impressed by the variety and excellent quality of coffee they served- from black, iced, latte, filter to unique preparations like the Vietnamese iced coffee, everything is prepared with expertise and care by their highly skilled baristas (my favorite is definitely the cold brew, which I would suggest to any black coffee lovers). The only thing which could probably be improved is the variety in the snacks menu- adding local snacks could draw in diverse customers!
But my best and unforgettable experience was the trip to their coffee plantation and factory. As our visit was in late August (it was raining and the coffee was not yet ready to be harvested), rarely a soul was seen in the plantation; it was only my travel partner, the tour guide (the ever so charming, well-informed and also an expert barista, Yaseen) and I. The hike in the vastness of Arabica and Robusta in the light tipper tapper of the rain was so magical that I am beyond words to express my experience other than it being heavenly! (Oh yes, and there were many leeches crawling and sucking on our feet and legs so have them well covered, especially if you visit during monsoon.)The small streams that run through the slopes of the plantation and a few citric trees here and there (which lend flavors to specialty coffee- thanks to our tour guide for this trivia!) adds to the magical charm of the plantation. The visit to the factory was also a very enlightening as we got to witness the reality how much human labor, care, skill and contribution of a whole community goes into making of this global and ubiquitous beverage.
Lastly, but definitely not the least, huge thanks to our tour guide and barista, Mohammed Yaseen (did I already mention that he is very charming besides being well-informed in his field of expertise?) My travel partner and I being coffee lovers had infinite questions about the whats, whys and hows of coffee production and preparation - yet Yaseen was very patient with our childlike queries and was well-articulated with his knowledge that after this whole trip our love for coffee and admiration for how much labor and thought goes into it increased for evermore. We would definitely love to have a second trip, maybe during the harvest season.
(P.S.: Sorry for this extremely delayed review, Yaseen! Got caught up with a lot of work and you deserved an elaborate review which required time.)

Read moreI visited Coffee World, Chikmagalur, yesterday around 8:30 PM with high expectations, given its reputation and positive reviews. Unfortunately, my experience was far from pleasant due to the unprofessional behavior of the staff, particularly the lady at the reception.
When we asked her about the best coffee available, she appeared completely disinterested in her job. Instead of engaging with us or providing any guidance, she was busy playing songs on her phone from YouTube, singing along as though we weren’t there. This behavior felt extremely inappropriate and unprofessional, especially for a place that’s supposed to offer a premium experience.
When she did finally serve us coffee, instead of handing it over properly, she slid it across the table. There was no explanation about why the coffee was the best or any effort to make us feel valued as customers. Her lack of training in customer service was evident, and it negatively impacted our experience.
Additionally, when I asked about a gifting bag to buy so I could package coffee and chocolates for gifting purposes, her immediate response was, “Sir, it’s going to cost ₹200,” without taking the time to understand my requirements. It came across as judgmental and dismissive. A well-trained staff member would have patiently listened, understood the customer’s needs, and then provided assistance rather than focusing solely on the cost.
While we did buy several items because we value good coffee, the entire experience felt far below what I would expect from a place like Coffee World. As a customer, I was left disappointed and dissatisfied.
This feedback is not just about one individual staff member—it reflects a gap in management oversight and training. Coffee World is a trusted name, but this experience risks tarnishing its reputation. I urge the management to take this review seriously and prioritize staff training to ensure they engage with customers professionally and enthusiastically. A proper audit or mystery shopper exercise would help assess and improve the customer experience.
For now, I am giving a 1-star rating with the hope that the management addresses these issues and enhances the quality of service. Coffee World has immense potential, but such experiences will drive away loyal customers unless corrective...
