Indian Coffee House — Restaurant in Kerala

Rather than Indian Coffee House, i would call it Indian "BEETROOT" House, as they Don't have a single vegetable dish which doesn't have beetroot in it. Located in crowded Mullakkal street, they don't have a parking facility for 4 wheelers, and if you are lucky, you may get a parking space for your 2 wheeler in the ground floor, or else you may have to park in the pay and park area next to it. A narrow stairway is leading you to this establishment, which is dark during night and steps are a little too high for old aged peoples to climb on. Negatives apart, once you reach this establishment, you'll feel the typical malayalee middle class crowd inside enjoying the regular "coffee house" dishes. Even though they make every veg dishes with beetroot, they are really tasty and classic. ICH is one among the oldest hotels of Alappuzha which will give give you a piece of memory once you go there. ICH is really an emotion for Alleppey'ians. Whatever you eat, your food is not complete without the Coffee, made with their specific "Indian Coffee Powder". Clean eatery, not very pricey, decent staff, Veg & Non-Veg varieties, fast service, tasty food, Clean washroom, enough seating space... There is something very specific about ICH, which they are following from the time since new and i found it really interesting and adorable. There is a common tips box on the cash counter. If you pay any tip to any waiter, unlike other hotels, the money will be deposited in the tip box. All these collected money will be collected together during ONAM celebration and are distributed among all the staff equally as bonus. KUDOS to the idea... Parcel was clean and nearly packed in oil paper & foil covere, with more than sufficient quantity of Coconut Chutney & Sambar but feel the chutneys taste better when eating in the hotel. I took a takeaway order but many were found to be eating there too.

About and some history:

Indian Coffee House or ICH as popularity known is a Cooperative Hotel Chain that is eched into the culinary lifeblood of Kerala.

It's the only eatery in Kerala where you can find Beetroot as a stuffing in Masala Dosa, Cutlets and in salads. My maternal uncle loved the Coffee House Dosas dunked in delicious coconut chutney and we were treated everytime he was in town.

Some Nostalgia:

I also fondly remember the Rose Milk which was a rare treat at Kottayam ICH amidst our journies to my father's hometown. Kottayam was the transit point on our journey to my grandparents house, where we alighted from the boat and boarded moved from the line boat a KSRTC Bus when we reached Kottayam on.

Back to present we visited Coffee House in Mullaykkal At Alappuzha. The premises are new and even though oldies like me miss the nostalgia of the original building, the new location is more roomy, open and better suited to Post covid dining.

Its spartan but spaceous. General Seating: 17 Tables 16@4pax 1@2 pax There is a family section as well. Occupancy was about 40% on a Sunday Morning 9 AM.

We ordered takeaway and order to delivery time was around 20 minutes. There were already about 5 people in queue awaiting their orders. ICH is not on Swiggy, Zomato but you can place orders on phone and...

Good place good food, Best place for family, group and individual, You can find this chain all over Kerala and your guaranteed a hygienic meal at an excellent price.
