We recently visited Rasathantra, located conveniently near Cochin International Airport, and it was an overall pleasant experience. The ambience of the restaurant is something that truly stands out. The interiors are cosy, aesthetically done, and beautifully lit, offering a blend of traditional and modern elements. The place is also surprisingly spacious, making it perfect for a relaxed dining experience, whether you're with family or friends.
Coming to the food – we tried a variety of dishes:
🍗 Dynamite Alfahm – This was quite different from what I’m used to. It had a sweet flavour profile, which isn’t typical for Alfahm, but since it was my first time trying a sweet version, I’d say it was okay.
🥘 Kerala Porotta with Beef Roast – Easily one of the highlights. The beef was tender and flavourful, and paired perfectly with the soft, flaky porottas.
🍄 Stir-Fried Chicken with Mushroom & Broccoli – Another sweet-leaning dish, but quite good. The chicken was well-cooked, and the veggies retained a good crunch.
🍛 Kadai Chicken with Chapathi – Rich, well-spiced and satisfying. The chapathis were fresh and soft.
🔥 Tandoori Chicken Tikka Starter – The marinade and flavour were spot on, but I personally found the pieces a bit too large. That said, they were juicy and well-cooked.
In short – the food was really good overall with decent variety and presentation.
However, the main letdown was the drinks – particularly the cold coffee. As someone who loves cold coffee, I found the one served here very disappointing. It had an artificial base flavour and tasted more like a generic milkshake with a hint of coffee. We genuinely struggled to finish it just to avoid wasting.
✨ Other positives:
Ample car parking, which is a huge plus near the airport.
Pricing is fair considering the quality of food and the ambience.
Surprisingly less crowded, making it a great option for a calm, family lunch or a friends' hangout without the usual rush and noise.
📍Overall, Rasathantra is a hidden gem worth trying, especially for its ambience and good food. Just a heads-up on the beverages – you might want to skip the...
Read moreVisited July 12, 2025 | Day 9 in India One of the Best Dining Experiences Near Cochin Airport! I always trust local recommendations, and this time it came from the bellboy at Courtyard by Marriott Cochin Airport. As he was delivering our luggage, I asked where we should eat, and without missing a beat, he said Rasatantra.
My husband was leaning toward dining at the hotel, but I convinced him otherwise and I’m so glad I did!
The food was absolutely delicious, and the service, especially from Jinu, was exceptional. Jinu was attentive, kind, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. He helped us tailor our order exactly the way we wanted and made us feel genuinely welcome throughout the meal.
We ordered nool parotta after I saw a photo of it on Google Maps while browsing the restaurant. I just had to try it and it didn’t disappoint. Flaky, soft, and so flavorful. For the kids, we ordered chicken lollipop with the sauce on the side, and chicken and egg noodles made plain with no spice just the way they like it.
One of the highlights was the Meen Mulakittathu fish curry. We had first tasted it during a recent trip to Athirappilly and loved it so much that I showed a photo to Jinu. He immediately recognized it and knew exactly what to order. It arrived bubbling hot in a traditional clay pot called a manchatti and it was absolutely divine. The curry was rich, spicy, and tangy I couldn’t get enough.
My husband ordered the special tandoori platter which came with a generous selection of tandoori chicken malai tikka tandoori fish and tandoori shrimp all served with soft kulcha and comforting dal. Every bite was grilled to perfection and packed with flavor.
The ambiance was warm and inviting and every detail from the service to the presentation made the experience memorable. If you're anywhere near Cochin Airport or staying at Courtyard by Marriott like we were do yourself a favor and eat...
