Taste of Kerala — Restaurant in Kerala

We have heard lots of negative reviews about the place from the locals but thought would give it a try anyways. The ambience set up is just great. They know how to maintain the place.. it is very welcoming and we have options wheather to dine outside or inside or even better by the little garden. I'd give 9/10. We decided to settle inside as it was a little too humid that night ... They didn't have much customers so it was very much quiet.. The place is not very hygiene but they have tried their best. I'd give 8/10. We ordered Fresh garden salad Fish BBQ Chicken Biryani Butter Chicken curry & Kerala Paratha with fresh lemon juice and lemon soda. . . A usual thing around kerala.. they name it fresh garden salad but it's just sliced cucumber, carrot, onion and tomatoes with lemon arranged in a plate...not the actual garden salad.. no particular comments on it but we found a few of the carrots were not that peeled properly... Moving on.. We were a little disappointed to know they ran out of Chicken Biryani unfortunately... so we thought of settling with the rest... The fish BBQ was just delicious and cooked rightly. We even thought of taking one as parcel. The butter chicken was not the best we have had.. but it was worth....the chicken was a little too stiff. The Kerala Paratha was crisp and not oily.. haven't had one like this for a very long time, we enjoyed every bit of it. The lemon juice and the lemon soda was well made too. Thanks to the chef.. . . The staffs are professional and friendly...was really satisfied with the customer service. . . The pricing was fair and satisfying except for the garden salad.. comparing to the other items... It was too expensive... . . But over all for South Indian dishes I'd definitely recommend this restaurant for locals and tourists... Definitely coming back...

The service is worst that I have ever experienced. The local shops have better service than in this hotel. I have stayed in kovalam for 15 days training for my scuba certification. I read and heard from locals about this hotel and wanted to give it a try. We were the first to enter into the restaurant and at 7.5pm and my order was taken by 745. When we asked them to take the order they said one minute and kept repeating the same for 45 min. I got irritated by the waiters rude tone. I remained to be calm and composed not sure what exactly was the reason for the delay. The good was excellent we asked for the bill and had to wait for 15 min. I went to the cash counter asked for my bill made the payment and left.

After 2 days I wanted to give the hotel another try since the food was good. We sat in a 8 member table since it has another couple sitting there. We asked if we can sit along with them they were ok. Then I sat down there since it was a warm out side and that place was much cooler. The waiter asked me to sit in the corner of the room saying it was a 8 member table and they cannot accommodate if a large crocs of any might come. I calmly told the corner table you recommended there is no fan nor is the Ac reaching the corner we wish to sit here and still he refused. I should have given him a slice of my temper but I stayed calm and walked out the restaurant.

The food is worth paying for but these waiters behaviour is very bad.

Plz have good patients when visiting this

I really want to give Zero star for service but the option is...

Due to the rain in Kerala we had to visit their restaurant that they have and the experience that we had was not that great for the prices they are charging for their food.

On the day we visited in the evening, some tourist bus also came to them and thus the only person who was very rude in behaviour.

While we were thinking of the items to order the person was irked that we are taking so long to discuss what to order as if we already know what they offer and how they taste.

He clearly told us that you have to order everything at once and no add-ons??? Means shall we think of the taste, volume everything on what basis to know whether the order we are placing will be sufficient or not???

By the way, we had ordered Chicken Biryani (which came with normal rice and NOT a basmati rice, veg pulav (that was average in taste), Chicken Fried rice (again average in taste even than the roadside Chinese stall) & finally the Prawns Fry Masala which was having only 5 prawns pieces of medium size and coated Rs. 600 for that much which was the below average in taste with no value for the price paid at all (our expectation was that we will get sufficient quantity of prawns but what they gave was few prawns with plate load of onion fried in masala)
