Nestled in the scenic locale of Kovalam, Catamaran is a culinary gem that perfectly caters to the tastes of North Indians looking to explore South Indian cuisine without stepping too far from familiar grounds. This spot has managed to strike a harmonious balance, offering a taste of the South while ensuring the comfort of North Indian staples like dal and paneer.
From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted by Amal, our server for the evening. His warm and gentle demeanor set the tone for a memorable dining experience. Amal’s exceptional hospitality and knowledge about the menu made our evening even more enjoyable. If you visit Catamaran, make sure to ask for Amal – he truly elevates the dining experience with his attentive and friendly service.
To start, we ordered the dal and rasam. Both dishes were executed to perfection, with the dal providing a comforting, familiar taste, and the rasam offering a flavorful introduction to South Indian spices. For a touch of adventure, I decided to try crab for the first time. The dish was prepared beautifully, making my first experience with crab delightful and far from intimidating.
Catamaran stands out as an ideal dining spot for couples, like us, who appreciate variety. The menu boasts plenty of options for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. Whether you’re craving a simple, hearty meal or looking to explore more exotic flavors, there’s something for everyone here.
Kovalam’s dining scene is often divided between high-end luxury resort restaurants and very local, regional joints. Catamaran, however, strikes a perfect balance. It offers a middle-ground fine dining experience that is neither too upscale nor overly rustic, making it an excellent choice for fellow Delhiites seeking a relaxed, enjoyable meal.
In conclusion, Catamaran is a must-visit when in Kovalam. Its ability to cater to diverse tastes while maintaining a high standard of service makes it a standout. And remember, asking for Amal as your host will undoubtedly enhance your...
Read moreRating:0 We visited this restaurant on December 26th 2024 with our family, expecting a wonderful holiday dining experience. Unfortunately, what we encountered was utterly disappointing.
Despite initially letting us in, the staff informed us that they don't serve outside guests during the holiday season due to being busy. This was not only inconvenient but also felt like a blatant insult. If they were going to enforce such a policy, it would have been considerate of them to clearly indicate this outside the restaurant, saving us the trouble of entering and being turned away.
The lack of transparency and poor communication from the staff left a sour taste, and we ended up having to find an alternative place to dine.
Unless they improve their customer service and communication, I would strongly advise against visiting this restaurant, especially during peak...
Read moreHad the breakfast buffet for ₹590 (including taxes). It was pretty excellent for that price! Decent variety of food and a good attempt at western food. Amazingly soft muffins and banana bread and cakes. The pastries could be skipped.. too bready and not flaky at all.
The Indian food was superb. Crisp masala dosa and vadas, flavourful podi idli and idiyappam etc. Amazing Grape juice was on tap, besides the usual watermelon juice on the day I went to Catamaran. The potato wedges there were the best I’ve had ever, but I think that could have just been a great batch.
For the price, the buffet was well done. I’m vegetarian, so I can’t comment about the meat section, but they did serve cold cuts besides some non-veg curry. The staff was helpful and kind. Overall, I’d highly recommend it. (9th...
