Situated in North Kolkata, Allen's Kitchen is one of the oldest restaurents catering ethnic colonial bengali crumb fried foods known as kobiraji cutlets as well as few others. The restaurent does not offer a high quality seating arrangements or views but some of their foods are simply delicious. My personal favourite is special prawn kabiraji fried in pure ghee. With a limited menu item they handle their foods pretty well, and can even customize a little bit if asked. Although it is situated just opposite to Sonagachi, Kolkata's famous prostitute area, we have never faced any issue. The restaurent closes sharp at 9pm, but often the main food items gets exhausted in the evening, hence visit early to enrich your taste buds. You can get some more idea about their food variety & price from my attached picture of their menu card captured by me on 11th Feb 2018. So if you are a foodie then this is a must visit place for you.

Food quality has deteriorated ...they have started compromising on their quality of food for more revenue generation it seems. Chicken chop had excessive amount of potatoes ... filling of chicken was extremely less and very salty. It was more like aloo chop not chicken chop. Batter of the prawn cutlet was under cooked and tasteless. Also, the sales person is extremely cunning... he kept on badgering us to get prawn cutlet and not prawn kabiraji just because making kabiraji takes time. Realised it later when he was telling his junior staff not to take orders that take more time and to cater to zomato guys. Service was bad... they were more interested in serving for zomato delivery than those eating at their place. Extremely Bad Experience Beware of the cunning guy at the counter

The authenticity and food quality of this place is beyond question. Sitting area and the kitchen is clean. But a bit overpriced, which it was not even 5-6 years ago. Back then it was an everyday visit of even middle-class. 2ndly, most of reviewers or influencers would say that a dish would make your stomach full, which is not true. We had our lunch at 2.30 pm and visit this place at 5pm and ordered a fish fry and a chicken steak. The bill was 250 (no bill provided). None were big enough to fulfill our hunger (see unedited photo). But they were tasty enough to make us wish for another piece. Overall a must visit for occasion or treats. But for us poor people, it is no longer an every weekend visit.

They have a wide array of good cutlets. Their USP being that they provide a few items in pure ghee which is a very rare sight in whole of the cutlet culture of Kolkata. They have some unique items like Chicken or mutton steak, which is a very different preparation than the normal steak. And also their most special item is the PRAWN CUTLET. This is not found anywhere else in kolkata, or maybe it is found but I haven't heard much about it that being said, I.doubt whether there lies a tastier prawn cutlet anywhere else The cutlets are very fresh, and the quality is very good as they come with a limited stock. Overall a good place to experience some of the best cutlets in Kolkata. Highly recommended.

Allen Kitchen in Kolkata is a must-visit spot for seafood lovers, especially for those who enjoy traditional Bengali cuisine. Their prawn cutlet stands out as a signature dish, perfectly seasoned with spices and coated in a crisp golden crust. The prawns are fresh, succulent, and cooked to perfection, offering a delightful crunch with every bite. The restaurant's ambiance may be simple, but the flavors are anything but. Allen Kitchen preserves the nostalgic charm of Kolkata’s old-school eateries while serving dishes that are consistently delicious. If you're craving a classic Bengali prawn cutlet with the right balance of spice and texture, Allen Kitchen is highly recommended!

OK well it's taken me two years to get here after I saw Rick Steins show about Indian cuisine on BBC World. He reviewed this place and said his nice it was. I was in the locality and when I saw thus place was close, I decided to pay a visit, I was not disappointed. The prawn fry was lovely, I think I could have eaten at least 5-6 if them. But I had a fish fry and it was also crunchy, flaky fish surrounded with breadcrumbs and deep fried, what's not to like :-) I then took home their fish pakoras. When I got home mum and me tried them.....yummy! They were so tasty. The batter was spicy and had the right amount if kick to it. I thoroughly recommend this place, it worth it.
