We sometimes find that a large restaurant fails to satisfy our taste buds, and other times a small cafe steals our hearts. We went to Cafe by the Lane with few expectations. It is a small cafe located between a couple of giant eateries at Hatibagan, Cafe Coffee Day and Karim's.
Three factors work well for us.
Ambience Quality, quantity and price of the food And Service
Let us have a quick review of all these three aspects.
Ambience:
This little cafe is based on a European theme. The murals go very well with this theme. I wish the dining room were more spacious. We had to sit side by side, which is a tad inconvenient. The light was dim and western music was hung in the air. The place was moderately crowded. The ambience was nothing extraordinary, but perfectly in sync with the piping hot platters.
Food:
Here is the rundown of the platters we ordered from head to toe:
Fried Chicken Sandwich (₹280) CBTL Special Broth Soup Momo (₹280) Meat Ball Spaghetti (₹340) Chicken Cheese Omelette (₹260) Dancing Coffee (₹200) The price of each item is exclusive of 2.5% CGST and 2.5% SGST.
Let's check out how good the signature dishes were.
CBTL Special Broth Soup Momo:
It was a heavenly preparation. The hot white chicken broth lit up our taste buds. The chicken was minced and the stuffing gave an out-of-the-world feeling. While I am jotting down this review, I am still drooling over it. The size of the momos is small. But as they say, good things come in small packages. If you visit this joint, must try this platter.
Meat Ball Spaghetti:
Best meatball spaghetti I ever had. The smoky sauce was a delight to my palate. We have visited a score of cafes across the city and suburbs, but this is the best! The meatballs were soft and easily melted in the mouth. The herbs were titillating our palate, big time.
Chicken Cheese Omelette:
Tanaya loved it! So did I. The omelette was delicious. The presentation was unique.
Dancing Coffee:
It was done to turn. Super refreshing and a perfect palate cleanser. The union of dancing coffee and broth soup momo was heavenly. It may appear a touch pricey, but trust me it's worth it. The sandwich was also a delight to our taste buds.
Service:
Food was served at a lightning speed. The steward was polite and helpful. We enjoyed the service, big way.
Recommendation:
The food was awesome. The ambience was in perfect sync. The price was moderately high. Yet it's worth it.
This is for the first time, we have posted the complete menu of a restaurant. Please go through it before your consideration.
One item was missing. Nolen Gurer Cappuccino. It is brewed in winter only. To explore that coffee we will visit the cafe again.

Read moreIt was my first time here, the place is exceptionally good! Cafe by the lane looks amazing from the inside. The place even though very small but cool vibe and classy aesthetics.
The prices might look on the expensive side at first but the quality and quantity really make up for it! We ordered Cold coffee, Fish orly & Chicken Alfredo spaghetti.
🧋 Cold coffee (200/-) = I am addicted for coffee.. For a coffee i don't need any fix time place or anything else so for that i went here to taste a coffe afterall it's a cafe and i just love it( if you like a dark coffe with a little sweetness then u can try out this) i can feel the coffee by their taste so here they don't provide cold coffee from Bean's but taste was very good.
🐟 Fish orly (360/-) = Basically i don't like fish yes you heard right i don't eat fish i don't like the fishhy smell but i love to eat fish dishes like fish fry or fish kabiraji.. Now when my wife want to order it i decided let's not try any fish item maybe it's smells but when it's come and take the first bite ahhhh it was so soft so tasty i can't stop my self even. A must try dish for all the fish lover. 💥(Must must must try)💥
🥘 Chicken Alfredo spaghetti (380/-) = My wife want to try this out because it's a Italian dish. When it was come it's looking so yummy but when we take the first spoon oh my god it's feels like we are sitting in a Italian cafe (first time try out) the taste was so so so good so yummy... A good experience for the first time try out Italian dish in a kolkata's small cafeteria. (If you're a big fan of white sauce then you should must try)
A great place to chill with friends & partner. Yes, definitely going next time to try some other dishes....
