Coffee O Kobita — Restaurant in Kolkata

It was raining on and off. We quickened our pace as the clouds began to gather in the sky. The first splatter of rain hit us as we approached the five-point crossing of Shyambazar. We hot-footed it to an amazing cafe, called Coffee O Kabita.

Ambience:

The dining area is on the first floor. We're escorted by a perky steward Abhijit da to the dining room. He told us owner Piyali Biswas has reconstructed this old building into this cafe. Very few cafes in North Kolkata can match up to its ambience. For book lovers, it is a slice of heaven. They have a large collection of super fascinating books. You can read them while munching on delicious food and smooth beverages. Tanaya handpicked Nante Phante Samagra and I went down memory lane with Sonar Kella!

Food:

In a brace of shakes, Abhijit da served the food. Here is a rundown of our order from head to toe:

Coffee O Kabita Special Sandwiches:

The sandwiches were crisp and tasty. They contained soft and juicy chicken breast, pickle, mayo and spicy sauce. They have stepped it up in recent years by adding corn and exotic spices to the mix. Abhijit da didn't divulge what new spices they used, but it tasted too yum.

Chicken Drumsticks:

Cut from the lower part of the leg, the drumsticks were done to a turn. They came with French fries and mayo dips. You can have it in the starters. It goes well with Virgin Mojito.

Virgin Mojito:

I have tried this beverage at other cafes as well, but Coffee O Kabita is the best. With the benefits of mint, it is distinctly cooling.

Chicken Lasagne:

Authentic Italian dishes are hard to find in Kolkata. I was hankering after this dish until I tried their preparation. Layers of pasta were topped with a creamy chicken sauce, tomato sauce, and mozzarella. It is their signature dish and comes at a competitive rate. If you're blown-in, please try this dish.

Caramel Custard:

It is our new obsession! Sweet, but not overpowering. We were also looking for an apple pie custard but to no avail. Abhijit da has assured us he will provide that next outing. And we assure you of an exhilarating experience.

A Nice Café Near Shyambazar Metro – But Choose Your Floor Wisely

This café is conveniently located near the Shyambazar Metro Station gate. It’s a two-storey setup, but your experience can vary greatly depending on which floor you choose.

The ground floor is honestly underwhelming — the ambience is dull, and the staff may insist you stay there by saying things like “the upper floor is full” or “it's closed”. In most cases, that's simply not true. Don’t fall for it.

The first floor (upper level), on the other hand, is beautifully designed and far more inviting. It features walls adorned with artworks and themes inspired by Satyajit Ray, creating a charming and photogenic atmosphere. It's ideal for relaxing, hanging out, or taking a few Instagram-worthy shots.

Food quality remains consistent across both floors, so no matter where you sit, you’ll get the same menu. However, the ambience on the first floor truly enhances the overall experience.

Pricing is reasonable — not at all expensive and well within budget.

In love with this place! Something right near shyambazar 5 point crossing like this is like a blessing!!! They have got awesome grill sandwiches waffles pasta fries and lovely service! There are two sitting places at the group floor and one at the first Floor! Superb service! What's best is the decor! Bringing out all the amazing info's about Kolkata and framing some rare photos.... this place is perfect for 17 to 70! Perfect to spend some time!
