It is near Shyambazar Metro and Shyambazar Five Point Crossing. This is a legendary place for Food Lovers of North Calcutta. Golbari r Kossa Mangso needs no introduction to "Khaddo Rosik Bangalees." Being an avid fan of my mom's Meat Dishes I went with very high expectations from this food joint.
Coming straight away to the food ..We ordered a plate of Kosha Mangso (Meat) and a plate of Chicken Masala . Both the dishes came along with 2 paranthas and medium quantity's of Onion and Cucumber Salad. We also ordered one EGG DEVIL.
Taste wise Chicken Masala was awesome .Juicy tender full leg piece Chicken with Masala Curry and soft parantha satisfied my partner's hungry soul. She was so much on to the Chicken that she refused to share it with me initially :) .. On my side of the table I did not enjoy the Signature Dish "Kosha Mangso" very much ..The taste of meat was ok not that great .The color of the gravy was black and whole of my life I had Brown Gravy .It definitely did not survive the huge expectation of a great meat dish for which they are famous. I would hardly give Rs.130 for those 4 tiny pieces of meat . The charged bill of Rs.205 for a quarter plate of meat which is just too high on pocket. But for one time it is ok, just for the experience.
Serving time was really really quick and the service was really fast .Golbadi holds hardly 10 -15 persons at a time . So you may have to wait outside for your turn. One more disappointing thing is you have to deposit money even before you had the food ..They follow token system .I dont understand the reason behind this improper gesture of theirs .As the restaurant is tiny you expect waiters to remember the orderings.
If you are really onto Ambience this is not for you . Can't comment on Hygiene also, as it seems like a normal eating house or a food joint type.It never qualifies a restaurant status as per my opinion.
The menu is kept simple. You can try their Egg Devil which is made out of Duck Egg and meat fillings which I never found . My partner gave full marks for...
Read moreIf you're looking for the iconic food joints of north kolkata, it's possible you would come across this name "Golbari" which is famous for its iconic dish "mutton kosha" along with other mutton and chicken items.
It is located right at shyambazar five points crossing or known as " shyambazar paanch mathar more ". To get the restaurant identified correctly, take a look right at the left of where bidhan sarani starts if you are coming from any of the four directions apart from through hatibagan, you would notice it's written down at the forefront of the restaurant in red block letters "GOLBARI". And if you are coming through hatibagan, take a look at the right after you reach at the crossing, you'd notice a paan shop alongside it and if you move further towards that, you'll eventually notice "GOLBARI". Coming to the experience, do not expect it to be a huge fancy restaurant, because the restaurant is been carrying its authentic charm since very long time from the days of 90's. It has maintained its cabin formed sitting area, which hardly covers 10-12 people at the same time. It has a desk like table attached to the wall in front of each chair and interestingly the chairs you would find smaller than usual. But still they allows plenty of leg space along with decent height from the table. You'd get the chart or the menu attached to the wall or even the waiter would come to you and dictate all is been available. And now the food, we ordered two plates of mutton kasha and paratha along with it. The food they serve is on a wooden type of plate, which they actually add on with the bill later. They served a chatni and some salad with the dish. The paratha was a bit disappointing as it tasted pretty bland to me and the mutton managed to be somewhat better than that. It had a smoky flavour in it but the pieces were a bit confusing to predict before biting into them. Some were really tender then some felt chewy to take down. So, it wasn't that of a standard when you hear the name of "Golbari" which it is famous for or known for. I would recommend you to go at least for once, to experience its legacy and charm it holds. And who knows you might find it excellent on your...
