My wife and I went for a Buffet Dinner at this Restaurant to celebrate our 3rd Anniversary, and the experience was a disaster.
Menu -
They claimed they are serving a Multi Cuisine buffet having 150 different items. However, we did not find the most common items in their Menu. There was only one Chicken Starter (Chicken Tikka), One Mutton Starter (Seekh kebab). There were no other Chicken, Prawn or Fish starters. There was one paneer starter, and it was good. Surprisingly most of the starters were cold. One mocktail was served as a welcome drink, however it was so bland and tasteless, we genuinely thought we were drinking water in a fancy glass. And then, we found out it was supposed to be a pineapple mocktail. They had a number of salads however, most of them were bland. There were 4 live counters, Chat, Pasta, Noodles, Waffle. There was no live salad, ice cream or seafood counter. Chat counter was good. There were few Indian snack items. I found a big hair in one of the snack jars and told one of the waiters to remove the same. They were promoting Moroccan themed foods, and the crowd was the least in those food counters. In the main course, they were serving Kolkata Style Chicken Biriyani, and I believe I had the worst biriyani in my life. I am not sure which part of Kolkata Biriyani doesn’t peel off the Potato skins. The taste was awful. It was like the chefs were in a silent strike and they wanted to show their protest through such horrible preparations. The Achari Mutton and Chicken Bhuna were pretty good in taste. The fish had a weird smell, and I couldn’t finish half of one piece. There were a number of desserts, however sweet items were pretty ordinary. Like Besan Laddu, Langcha etc. There were a few awful shots. Mango custard and Waffles were good. There were 5-6 different ice-cream flavours.
Ambience -
We were given a seat beside the window, facing the fountain at the entrance and the view was okay. The ambience was aesthetic. There was no live music. The regular music being played was boring. Another surprise came in our way was Mosquitoes. There were hundreds of them. We even saw waiters roaming around with Mosquito Bats in their hands. Since our seat was towards a corner, there were more mosquitoes dancing.
Service –
The most pathetic was the service. Usually in other buffets in town, starters are served at the table. No such scene here. A restaurant in a 5-star hotel may have some other Rules, which is fine. There were at least 50 waiters roaming around, however none of them came to our table even once to explain what options are available, or give a tour, or ask for feedback about the food and hospitality. We had to ask them multiple times what to find where, as the Restaurant is quite big.
Conclusion –
For this experience, they are charging 2476/- per person (including GST), which is not at all worth. A Restaurant in a 5-star hotel was a total let down. Our Anniversary was marred beautifully by them. I will make sure no one in my family or friends will visit JW...

The ambience and the staff were lovely. Very hospitable and polite which gave us the best experience.
But , the food was honestly very basic for a 5-star hotel. The variety was good but there were very few main courses and lots of salad. Some were good but others were repulsive. Some items did not feel fresh and tasted stale. The vinegar onions were definitely stale and the seafood salad tasted absolutely horrible along with some other non veg salads. Ordered waffles at the counter but did not recieve them. The only thing i personally enjoyed was their desserts which i think tasted amazing, do try them, try them all if you can all of them were a must try in my opinion. There were other counters for pasta, chat and waffles do try them, hopefully you will get to taste them, if you receive them that is. There is also a bread and cheese section which was good.
Personally i did not enjoy the food as much as i thought i would, the food did not match my expectations. There were some good dishes like the starters and ofc the desserts but other than that i did not like the taste of some dishes. I think i would get the same dishes cooked better at other places .
Oh and honorable mentions to the flies at the venue. There were a lot of flies there, sitting on the butter, on our table etc , there was someone with some insect repelling bat but that did not help the case.
The only good thing about this place was staff behaviour and desserts other than that i do not have anymore positive...
Read moreMe and my wife went for lunch today at JW Kitchen to have a buffett lunch. Everything was going fine until my wife while having a desert found shrads of glass/crockery in her mouth which were razor sharp and when she spit it out we informed the nearest serviceman available. He took the desert bowl and the glass pieces. He assured me that the manager on duty and chef will come to me to speak personally.
Fast forward to next 20 mins, no one came and i myself went to the manager to speak regarding this and he was like yes yes i was just about to come to you! 20 minutes after a incident which badly harms the reputation of 5 star hotel the manager is still not intertested to come. I feel the moment he was notified he should have come.
Just to put a action for it he out forward a chef infornt of me who also was very laid back towards the issue. overall it was a well executed drama just to show me by the manager and his team memebers, who were not at all bothered about the incident , as if it was a daily thing for them.
Now coming to the last point. Neither the manager nor the hotel authorities were interested in apologising and compensating in any way for it. He manager told us at the fag end that someone from hotel or GM will get in touch with you which never happened.
My only question here is that me being a member of the hotel program faced this issue from a so called luxury 5 star hotel of kolkata. I wonder what else do they do behind the curtains.
Really dissapointed a big time from JW marriott kolkata, not recommending anyone...
