Nice ambience, but food price ( chop) is huge,overpriced but its a heritage place, this shop is more than 100 years old. Netaji subhas chandra bose was a fan of this shop, they diatribute free Alur Chop on 23rd January.
On every trip to Kolkata, this is one of the must to have stops. For the uninitiated the shop serves various kinds of fritters (তেলেভাজা - চপ). One of the tradition that it has - it serves free snacks on the morning of 23rd January, birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose , as he used to have snacks from this shop.

In the year 1918 Khedu Shaw opened the shop. This makes it the centenary year of the shop. Khedu Shaw was a huge fan of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose who frequently visited the place during his Scottish Church student days. In Pre-Independent days, Khedu Shaw used to supply snacks for all the meetings of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose with other fellow freedom fighters. From 1942 Khedu Shaw started secretly distributing snacks to all his friends and family members for free of cost on 23rd January, Netaji’s birthday. After Independence the tradition continued and from 1964 it started publicly distributing 'telebhaja' free of cost to others too on 23rd January and it continues even today.
