If you are in Sarat Bose Road in the morning and are hungry, don't miss this place under any circumstances.
The kachoris are yumm. The potato curry is to die for. And don't forget to take the chillies. They will send you to heaven. As I am writing this, I am visualising the food and the experience and it makes me want to relive the moment every second. Don't forget to add the customary jalebi at the end.
Don't try the malpua, I found it disappointing. You may try the samosa, which is ok. But my recommendation is stick to the classic - kachori with alu sabzi and chillies, ended with a jalebi. You won't go wrong.
In the same road, there is another kachori shop which is even more crowded and charges one rupee premium per item as compared to this place (Rs. 8 vs Rs. 7). Quick service, very busy place, good food, great tea - all served hot...and yes, you can get the tea packed and that too with the bhad (khullad)! I got to know of the place from a friend - she's professionally into food so it comes well recommended. They have standard fare that's served hot and tastes good, with no after effects (I think I had 5-7 cups of tea). Total cost came to around Rs. 150- 250. Will definitely go again...and again.
If you're going there from Tollygunge, you'll cross Maharaja first where some people will tell you Maharani has closed. Basically there are 2 places Maharaja and Maharani by the same family and Maharaja may have come up after some internal dispute. They try to reroute customers so keep going - Maharani is further down the same road. Interestingly, Maharani doesn't mislead people looking for the...
