Shawarma is a dish in Middle Eastern Cuisine consisting of meat cut into thin slices, stacked in a cone-like shape, and roasted on a slowly-turning vertical rotisserie or spit. Originally made of lamb or mutton, today's shawarma may also be chicken, turkey, falafel. Thin slices are shaved off the cooked surface as it continuously rotates. Shawarma is one of the world's most popular street foods, especially in Egypt, the countries of the Levant and the Arabian Peninsula, and beyond. Although the roasting of meat on horizontal spits has an ancient history, the technique of grilling a vertical stack of meat slices and cutting it off as it cooks first appeared in the 19th-century Ottoman Empire, in what is now Turkey, in the form of doner kebab. Both the Greek gyros and shawarma are derived from this. Shawarma, in turn, led to the development during the early 20th century of the contemporary Mexican dish tacos al pastor when it was brought there by Lebanese immigrants. Shawarma Nation is a brand which specialises in Middle East Cuisine and of course 'Shawarmas'. They have a huge variety of Shawarmas and along with that other Middle Eastern delicacies in their menu. In Kolkata, they have outlets in Prince Anwar Shah Road, Salt Lake, Chinar Park, Behala. Few days ago, I was having a craving for Shawarma and some middle eastern food, so I went with my friends to Shawarma Nation outlet at Prince Anwar Shah Road. This is one of the oldest outlets since 2014 but recently they have renovated it and gave a very cool look with quirky backgrounds and mirrors on the wall, also increasing the seating capacity to 10 - 15 people compared to previously seating. I am trying their this outlet since a long time and I really like their preparations. Middle Eastern Cuisine is basically meat oriented but thanks to Shawarma Nation they also offer veg varients of those dishes for vegetarians like me out there. So that day on my recent visit, I tried out —

Fattoush Salad — Fattoush Salad was served with Crisp fried Khubz and loaded with fresh veggies blended with spices. A vegetarian Salad made so delicious. Its a must try!!

Moroccan Falafel Burger — My experiences with Falafel at other places so far were not so good. So, I was bit skeptical about ordering a Falafel Burger. But to my surprise, it was lip-smacking good. The patty was thick and crunchy.

Moroccan Falafel Shawarma — I never imagined veg shawarmas could be this good in taste!! This one really stole my heart for the day. I loved the Shawarma, the smooth soft pita bread was loaded with Falafel, veggies, blend of turkish sauces.

I also tried some Smoothies which were really cool and refreshing in taste — Mango Smoothie Strawberry Smoothie Orange Smoothie Kiwi Smoothie

Along with this my friends ordered American Crispy Shawarma (Chicken), Mexican Shawarma, Tendergrill Chicken Burger, Hummus Beiruti (Chicken), Irani Chicken Rice Bowl, American Crispy Chicken Rice Bowl, Turkish Chicken Abalama Rice, Crispy Chicken Strips. They too found the respective dishes to be mouth watering delicious, very different in taste and appreciated the cooking style. Shawarma Nation does keep up to the authenticity of the Middle East Cuisine. The items are priced at very reasonable rates considering both the quality and quantity. These Lebanese eating joint also serves 4 types of smoothies such as- Mango Smoothie, Strawberry Smoothie, Pineapple Smoothie and kiwi Smoothie. The smoothies are really thick and are really delicious in taste. Especially I've fallen in love with Strawberry smoothie.

Ordered:- 👉Persian Grilled Shawarma Wrap - This is one the signature item here. The chicken which is used here is fully grilled and is cut in shredded portions marinated with shawarma nation special spices and sauces wrapped inside a Lebanese baeruti. The wrap is cut into 2 portions. The taste is just yummy. It will leave your lip smacking. (Highly recommended)

👉Tendergrill Chicken Burger - another special items in the form of burger. The chicken is cut in a round thick pieces almost the round shape of burger bread. Believe me the chicken is so thick and the quantity of chicken. Is so much that it will come out of the burger bread cover. The chicken is mixed with shawarma national signature sauces and salad which will give the item a really enjoyable taste. The most important part of this items is the chicken portion. (Most Highly recommended)

👉Chicken Hummus Beiruti-

Humus Beiruti is a unique Lebanese dish. The fish consists of Lebanese roti cut in 4 parts and are toped with special shawarma nation masala over it. Then the chicken portion are cut in big shredded portions which are placed over a special item known as humus. The humus is made by special sauces and ingredients and this is maxed instantly. This special humus can't be prepared from before. Also one needs to consume the dish after it's made else you will not get the taste.

👉Smoothies - strawberry. Though smoothies are available everywhere but still here it's a bit different. When u have it u will understand how thick it is. Made with least percentage of water and all pure juice. 👉Chicken Rice Bowl- This is a new time which I had. It is served in a ready made box containg rice topped with chicken pieces and inside the rice is a gravy. Also served salad along with it.
