I went to this place today with my family and in laws for a dual celebration of the Independence Day and the 45th marriage anniversary of my in laws. This restaurant was previously called Saffron Tree. We were searching for options around Indian and Mughlai cuisine when the name of Saffron Tree popped up. When we called up the restaurant we came to know that this has been rebranded and was now called the Splash Luxorant - The Aquarium Restaurant. We looked at the pictures available on the web and the aesthetics looked pretty appealing. We decided to give it a try and it turned out to be one of the best decisions we had made when it came to restaurant choices! This place is located near the Deshopriyo Park area closer to the Southern Avenue. We were welcomes into a world of aquariums! the entire place is very beautifully decorated with sprawling aquariums teeming with colourful fishes swimming playfully around. Every small detail has been themed with mini aquariums even if it was the small show piece on the table or the box in which the bill along with sweet mouth fresheners were served. We took a while taking pictures and exploring the interiors while our food was being served. This restaurant offers a wide variety of cuisine from around the world. We kicked things off with drinks which was called Hazmola Collin. This was like jaljeera but much spicier. We are not heavy eaters and we ordered carefully so as to not waste any food. Daab Chingri Laphing which was an extremely innovative dish which looked somewhat like lobster kobiraji. But underneath the wrapping of lachha the lobster was coated with a very tasty and tangy sauce which made this item delicious. The chef Mr. Sambit Banick requested us to try out another of his signature starter items which was Kataifi which was a very unique chicken preparation normally found as street food in Ladakh. The main course comprised of Amritsari Kulcha, Jeera Pulao, Murg Bharta, Murg Handi Lazeez and Kashon Pora Maach. Each and every item was superb in taste and was served with exquisite aesthetics. Finally we had a Chocolate Gateau cake to mark the anniversary celebration. It came with a scoop of vanilla icecream. Once more we were not to be disappointed with the taste. Overall this place is one of the best restaurants where I have had food both in terms of decor, quality, service and behaviour. The owner and chef Mr. Banick was extremely cordial and took time out to strike conversation with us. Highly recommended for family and friends...
Read moreIf you love aquariums with exotic fishes then this restaurant is for you. Beautiful ambience with aquariums containing prawns, lobsters, crabs, alligator fish, etc. will surely mesmerize your experience. Went there on a Sat on July 2025 for lunch and came out disappointed. Remind you, this is the same spot where Saffron Tree was located. Splash opened 2-3 months back after Saffron tree was closed permanently. Below are the items we ordered:
Crab Meat Galawat Cornettos: 5 pcs of small cornettoes with crab meat in it was okayish for us. For those who love crab meats will be disappointed as the crunchy cornetto's taste was masking the meat's taste. Be sure to give it a try as everyone's taste can be different. (6/10) (Price: Rs. 495) Hazmola Collin: Mocktail with Hajmola taste was suggested by the waiter himself. Best if you drink it as soon as it served, else it will feel a lot tangy and chatpata and might ruin your whole experience. (6/10) (Price: Rs. 225) Jumbo Prawn Red Peppers: A jumbo prawn cut into really small pieces with veggies tasted really good but the quantity of prawns were mostly 7-8 pcs at max. (7/10) (Price: Rs. 595) Squid Rings Pakodas: One of the worst dishes we had. We thought Pakodas would be something which is fried but to our amazement, they served actual pakodas that we generally have in our locality, just added squid pieces, nothing else. Serves 5 Pakodas. Also really costly. (1/10) (Price: Rs. 495) Wok Fried Rice Mixed: A normal fried with good quantity (adequate for 2 adults), but would suggest to try something new like Seafood Fried rice if available. (9/10) (Price: Rs. 365) Chicken Basil Sanbeiji (Gravy): Paired it with the fried rice, the taste was little spicy but went well with the fried rice. Comes with 6 pieces. (9/10) (Price: Rs. 395)
Overall, we didn't like the exotic dishes and was dissatisfied with the cost also. You can call it a fine dining experience but the quality of food should be as per the price they are charging. Service was really good. For a budget oriented person like me, this can be considered as an one time experience only for the ambience.
Parking: Free street parking. Easily available for 2-wheelers but for 4-wheelers, it might be difficult...
Read moreYesterday, we visited Splash Luxorant – The Aquarium Restaurant, a newly opened spot in South Kolkata, just opposite the Southern Avenue Post Office (MQXT lane, previously Saffron Tree).
When we entered, we were truly mesmerized by the beautiful aquarium-themed decor – live fishes, aquarium walls, live fish flooring, and ambient lighting. The place is spacious and perfect for a different dining vibe. However, we felt the lighting was overly warm, which didn’t quite match the cool, aquatic theme, and the loud party music playing was very annoying and completely out of place with the relaxing aquarium atmosphere.
The staff were extremely polite, and the head chef himself was humble and attentive, suggesting some of their unique appetizers.
We ordered:
Mocktails: Hajmola Collins & Melon Surprise – both were unique, refreshing, and absolutely worth trying.
Appetizers: Laphing, Gin Roasted Lahsooni Wings, and Crab Meat Galawat Cornettos.
Laphing and Crab Meat Galawat Cornettos were fantastic – must-try dishes for anyone visiting.
Gin Roasted Lahsooni Wings were a disappointment. Despite the hype from food bloggers, the wings had mostly bones with very little meat. Portion sizes need serious improvement.
Main Course: Chelow Kebab Sizzler – unfortunately, it was a huge letdown. The rice was tasteless and lacked butter, the mutton seekh kebab was dry, and the overall platter didn’t match the chef’s claims of being “the best in town.”
On the positive side, the presentation of each dish was unique and creative. They also offer...
