Nice Homemade Food option in Diveagar for family. As we decided to explore various options for food in Diveagar, we thought to have dinner at Kelkar Khanaval, after reading the reviews.
We booked our order for dinner at around 2:30pm on same day. After reaching to the location we observed few families which were already waiting in waiting area for food. Car can be parked on the road near the gate, but not a separate area for parking.
Dinner timing is 8:30pm to 9:30pm only. As understood after discussion that, -- its not restaurant, its homemade food -- no food without booking We waited for more than 1.5hrs to get our turn for dinner. Even after repeatedly but politely checking with uncle, still we were not considered. Somehow the practice wasn't fair, because few families just pushed themselves before others.
Food was above average we can say. Maharashtrian Families will definitely like this kind of Homemade food. Its unlimited thali system. Aamti/Curry was saltless, sweet but few may like that. Salt is served separately. Shahi Modak was awesome, they ask us to make hole in same so that Ghee can be poured in it. That experience was amazing. Many people visit this place to taste the Modaks, many gets it as a packed parcel.
Waiting area was good, but we waited for a longtime. Not sure why we were not preferred to sit first, may be because families were preferred to sit first.
We recommend this for Vegetarians who are looking for Homemade taste and Specially Modaks. Just while booking the seat for lunch/dinner, one needs to confirm the numbers in queue. Thaali was 200/- each and Modak 35/- each (Modak order must be given well in advance) Considering taste, portion and quality, 200/- feels on little...
Read moreTasty and homely vegetarian lunches. This is a mess so you have to call in advance to book. It is recommended to call at 0930 Hrs. to book for the same day's lunch. Visit the place at 1300 Hrs. for the lunch. by 1400 Hrs., they are usually winding up. Since it is a homely mess, do not expect a long drawn-out lunch session. You are expected to finish quickly and leave.
I enjoyed the meal, The solkadhi was amazing. It had a pinch of sugary aftertaste which I liked. They also serve Ukadiche Modak, a premium Maharashtrian dessert. They serve a slightly richer variation of the dish by cooking the filling in mango pulp. It was richer in preparation, but it was not something we enjoyed. I am a fan of the traditional way of cooking the modak, which they do not serve any longer.
It is exactly opposite the Limaye school and from the outside bears no indication that there is a mess there, but look a bit closely and you would spot their board inside the compound.
Overall, if you want to have vegetarian food, this is a good, healthy, homely option.
P.S.: The bookings are handled by the owner and he is idiosyncratic. You have to make efforts to brush his directly confrontational tone. The food isn't so out of the world to endure him, but we did not know at...
Read moreExtremely unprofessional behavior of staff and owner. After spending nice morning on beach , we went to eat lunch at around 2.15 PM..I had called the owner in the morning to check on timings...the answer I got is come at the earliest.. after spending a nice morning on beach, we went back hotel ..got ready and again called up to check if they are open...he said he is waiting ..After reaching there, the kelkar aunty and uncle started shouting on us...I tried explaining them however before having the food..we had to consume bad words from them..Didn't want to create a scene so we started eating the food.. Food was extremely cold and each and every veggie was sweet to its core..contrary to their harsh words..even the maids were serving food in such a way that we are beggers and eating for free..Modal were tasty however not sufficient...uncle said that he thought we are lower caste which he guessed from.my last name and hence I guess he was behaving like that...really upsetting..if u dont want to ruin your holidays ,don't go and...
