American Express Bakery — Restaurant in Mumbai

American Express Bakery in Bandra is one of those “heritage” spots — over 100 years old and super well known. So naturally, we were curious and had decent expectations going in. But honestly? It was pretty average.

We tried a couple of their cheesecakes, brownies and patties — it all tasted just… mid. Nothing bad, but nothing memorable either. The kind of stuff you’d expect at a regular bakery, not one with a century-old reputation.

What also stood out — and not in a good way — was the staff. They came across as a bit rude and uppity, almost like they were doing us a favour by just being there. For a place that sees so much footfall and has that legacy, you’d expect more warmth or at least basic courtesy.

It’s also priced a bit on the higher side, which would be totally fine if the quality matched up — but it really didn’t.

So yeah, for the hype and the history, it fell short. If you’re in the area, maybe check it out once just for the legacy factor. But don’t go in expecting to...

The quality of most of the food stuff has deteriorated by leaps and bounds. The garlic toasties which were Rs 80 have gone up to Rs 150 for less quantity than before. I don't know what olio/oil they've begun to use of late, but it tastes rancid. The mutton puffs/patties are full of masala. The quiche lorraine turns to bland dough lumps in your mouth. Quite ugly. The chicken Hawaiian sandwich has a minimum amount of chicken n max amount of bread that sticks to your palette. Although they have seemingly upmarket stuff the prices would be justified if the quality was good. A1 bakery next door has better...

Today being Good Friday(29/03/2024)..wanted to have a simple breakfast..picked 3plain croissants which was tagged eggless. (I'm allergic to anything which contains eggs for the past 17years.and even by mistake even a small bite of food item containing egg I immediately fall sick..) The croissants was NOT EGGLESS AT ALL..as I have got a sever Allergy after consuming just 1 croissant.And after calling the outlet the staff are not equipped for such situations and disconnected my call. Very bad...
