I visited this outlet of apsara ice cream, near m g road, vidya niketan marg, goregaon.
As there was 50% off on purchase of ice cream, I ordered 2 scoops. They packed the ice cream but the sales person asked for my mobile number at the time of payment.
I did not wish to give my mobile number but he insisted for my number and the said that the discount will be given only if I give my phone number otherwise I will have to buy at the regular price.
I asked him whether my mobile number is more valuable than the purchase to which he said that it is company policy.
Hence, I had no choice but to leave the outlet without buying ice cream and the sales person was ok with it.
So not only has your company lost a customer permanently, I will also never recommend apsara ice cream to anyone hereafter.
I would like to bring to your notice the following excerpt regarding consumer rights and business practice:
The Consumer Affairs Ministry has issued an advisory directing retailers not to insist on the personal contact details of consumers for delivering certain services.
The new advisory issued by the Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of India, states that requiring a consumer's mobile number as a condition for the sale of a product when the consumer declines to provide it is a violation of consumer rights and an unjust business practise.
The advisory mentions Section 72 - A of the Information Technology Act, 2000 considering the act of obtaining a mobile number without consent as a punishable offence.
I hope the management of this company looks into this matter and reviews it's policies to conduct their business in an ethical manner.
P. S.: I've notified the company via email as well, so kindly don't give your standard, automated reply stating people to call on your...
