Lovely flavours and perfect amount of food. With so much choice of food here Well ..it's difficult to choose one. Great Value curry , Thoroughly enjoyed the food . Great food , great service , great ambience .Would come here again.
So here are the scrumptious dishes which I ordered :
Calicut Pulav : Calicut also know as City of spices âşď¸ !!! Prepared with mix vegetable, cheese cottage and long grain basmati rice has a distinct flavour of south in a melange of spices and fried onions makes this delicious dish known as Calicut pulav. Yes ! The perfect Veg Calicut pulav still exists i.e, @Bananaleaf .The uniqueness of this dish lies in the mixture of spices used in perfect combination.
Price : 200 Rs
Kerala Parotha and Aviyal : There won't be any other good combination of kerala paratha and aviyal. Kerala paratha is basically a flat bread which originated back in the 12th century in India. This is made of plain flour which is rolled out frequently to get the crisp layers in it, this paratha is one of my favourites.
Aviyal is the most famous dish of kerala made with coconut milk ,curd , mixed vegetables and mild spices, I must say one of the healthiest and guilt free dishes of kerala. The perfection lies in the cooking and cutting of the vegetables. My search ended @Banana leaf where I found this authentic aviyal. Price : 280 Rs
Nuppu Bonda : Famous snacks of South India made with potato , and stuffed with some spices and drooling melting cheese! Coated with crispy bread crumbs and deep fried until golden brown. This Bonda is moist and super soft filling ,it is basically served with coconut or green chutney . Price : 170 Rs
Chettinad Masala Dosa : Frankly , I have never tried Chettinad Masala dosa in any restaurant before. Unique red masala gives this dosa a nice and spicy flavour. A brilliant combination of chettinad masala adds a unique flavour to this dosa. Price : 180 Rs
Sambhar- I love sambhar which has a good balance of mild heat and tang along with a bit of sweetness. There are different types of sambhar prepare differently in south India but I love the fresh udupi style version. It has a gorgeous light red colour and had a perfect balance of all elements.
Coconut chutney has a mild flavour .
Filter Coffee - hehe I can die for this â¤ď¸ Price : 60 Rs
Malabar Style Idli : Idli dipped in Stew Price :240 Rs
Price Value : 8/10 Quality :9/10 Hygiene :...
Read moreBanana Leaf is a authentic South Indian Place with beautiful looking interiors and cosy seating, they have newly opened in Borivali and it is a pure vegetarian place.
They food is served in Banana Leaf which is placed on top of a Steel Plate to add to the authenticity, I tried a few things here..
Tiranga Idli This is a Idli Platter with 2 Different types of Idli and one portion of plain Idli, The two different types include one in Red Gravy and another in Green Gravy. The Red one was my favorite and the Plain Idli was Super Soft. Rating - 8/10
Cheese Potato Medu Wadai This is different than our regular Medu Wada, it contains some Mashed Potatoes and Cheese in it. To taste it didnât feel different than normal Medu Wada, The Highlight was the Sambar, Coconut Chutney and Coconut Garlic Chutney served along with it, I was in love with the Sambar. Rating - 8/10
Podi Onion Uttapam This was the softest and the best uttapam I have ever had till date. The Podi added to it was very little I wish it had more, Still I loved it. ORDER IT!! Rating - 10/10
Cheese Onion Tomato Uttapam Onion and Tomato Uttapam topped with cheese, It lacked salt and the cheese was grated on it after the uttapam was cooked. If the Cheese would have melted maybe it would have tasted better. Rating - 7/10
Mushroom Sukkha with Neer Dosa The Button Mushrooms were tossed in a Orange Gravy with strong Coconut and Curry Leaf flavor in it, it is called Sukkha but it is in a Semi-Gravy form and is served along with $ Neer Dosas. ORDER IT! Rating - 9/10
Gadbad Ice Cream The most satisfying way to end your meal here, it contains 3 different flavors of ice cream served along with Jelly and Fresh Fruits like Banana, Apple and Watermelon. The 3 Ice Creams were Vanila, Kesar and Strawberry. ORDER IT! Rating - 10/10
Akhrot (Walnut) Halwa If if have ever tasted Walnut Fudge, then it is exactly same. The halwa was served hot and had lot of richness from Walnuts. Rating - 9/10 For the Drinks here I would recommend Lychee Mint Cooler, it had amazing freshness from the Lychee and Mint.
Overall the food here is really good and authentic, the service needs some improvement. Our water Glasses were empty and we had to ask the waiter everytime to refill it.

Read moreSouth Indian cuisine is my least favourite and mostly I avoid it. But, sometimes I am willing to give it a shot when my friends recommend it.
Unlike the hustle-bustle in any udupi joint, this place is a nice spacious sit-down restaurant, at a easy-to-find location in Borivali. This vegetarian restaurant is popular for south Indian snacks and people can be seen waiting outside the restaurant for their turn on weekends and holidays. They have a variety of dishes which you can experiment. There are items on the menu that you need to inquire about, because you have never read the names before. A few north Indian dishes are included for people who cannot do without their paneer.
Overall, good ambience and good food. I have eaten here before too and had enjoyed the meal even more than on this occasion, but perhaps that can be attributed to a reduced level of surprise. We ordered : Mosambi Fresh Juice INR 140 and Apple Kiwi Juice INR 260. Roasted Onion Garlic Uttapam INR 220 was amazing. Idli Platter INR 375 had 6 variety of Idlis which were soft and delicious. Chettinadu with Appam INR 340 looked and smelled great. It had a tangy taste, deep red colour, creamy texture and was loaded with vegetables. I liked the dish but somehow didnât like the big chunk of vegetables they had put in it. But, I will recommend this dish as it was tasty. For Desserts we had Idiyappam with sweet milk INR 325 which was delicious and balanced with the right sweetness. Pineapple Sheera INR 195 was clumpy and had food colour. It was average and can be skipped. The total amount spent for 5 people was INR 2184.
The prices are on a higher side if you compare to an udipi but definitely affordable compared to other restaurants as it is justified by the quality of food they offer. Overall the service was not as efficient as one expects from such a place for this price. The restaurant is cramped with service staff. At a point we thought there were more servers than customers.
Nice for a quick bite if you are in the area, as it is not easy to get better than average quality South Indian fair these days. I would recommend this for people who want to taste...
