If you're a fan of barbecues, then Barbeque Nation on Veera Desai Road is nothing short of a culinary paradise. Imagine this place as the Mecca for all things grilled—it's a haven for anyone who enjoys a feast, whether you're a meat lover or a vegetarian.
Our experience began with a warm welcome and swift seating, thanks to the prior reservation we made. The attentive staff guided us to our table and, with a smile, asked what we’d like to try from their extensive buffet spread. It was clear they were committed to delivering a personalized experience.
While we waited for the grill on our table to heat up, we were treated to an assortment of starters: golden Cajun potatoes, tangy pani puri, flavorful veg kebabs, crispy corn, and smoky tandoori chicken drums. Each bite was bursting with flavor, setting the tone for the meal ahead.
For those who love their drinks, there’s an unlimited non-alcoholic drinks option for ₹249. I couldn't get enough of the refreshing fresh lime soda and the nostalgic kalakhatta—both were the perfect thirst-quenchers amidst all the grilling.
Speaking of grilling, the skewers kept coming—fresh and piping hot. There were succulent offerings like mushroom, paneer, soya, fish, prawns, and a variety of chicken, each infused with unique flavors that catered to every preference.
I also indulged in their pasta and noodles, which were surprisingly delicious and tasted authentically Italian and Asian. But what truly stole the show for me was their mutton masala. It was perfectly cooked, tender, and packed with rich, deep flavors that paired beautifully with butter naan. The moment the mutton ran out, a fresh portion was brought in—now that's what I call service!
Next was the Mango Festival, which was being promoted the Tango Mango Fest. The idea sounded irresistible, but sadly, it didn’t live up to the hype. I sampled their mango ice cream, fresh mango slices, mango pastry, and a mango custard. While enjoyable, they didn’t deliver the bold, vibrant mango flavor I was hoping for. I limited myself to just one serving and moved on.
And then, more desserts! While the malai kulfi and paan kulfi—two of my all-time favorites—were slightly underwhelming, it was the Apna Desi Angoori Gulab Jamun that saved the day. Paired with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, it was the kind of dessert that made me sigh in pure bliss.
The service at Barbeque Nation was impeccable. The pacing was perfect—nothing was rushed, yet there was always food on the table. The staff's attention to detail was spot on, and a special shoutout goes to Deepika(excellent service), who took exceptional care of us throughout the meal.
One memorable moment was when a couple was celebrating their anniversary. The staff made it extra special by bringing them a complimentary cake, surrounding them with cheers and wishes that truly elevated their experience.
The ambiance was vibrant and fun, with great music creating a lively atmosphere. The washrooms were clean, and the entire space was well-maintained, which added to the overall positive experience. The billing process was smooth and efficient, which is always a plus.
Overall, Barbeque Nation offers an unforgettable experience where food truly reigns supreme. Whether you're here for a casual meal or a special celebration, this place promises to satisfy your cravings and leave you with a smile...
Read moreMy wife and I visited Barbeque Nation at Fun Republic today (2nd Oct. 2025) with our usual high expectations for a sizzling, flavour-packed meal. Barbeque Nation has always been our go-to for live grills and an energetic dining atmosphere. Unfortunately, today's experience was a complete departure from the norm and left us utterly disappointed.
The Core of the Problem: The Stone-Cold Starters
The very essence of the Barbeque Nation experience is the unlimited, hot-off-the-skewer starters brought to your table. Today, this core concept failed spectacularly. Almost every single starter item we were served was cold. And I don't mean lukewarm; I mean shockingly cold, as if the items were pre-cooked, refrigerated, and then brought out to us without being properly heated or grilled.
• Hara Paneer Tikka: Paneer was so cold as if its directly taken out from cold storage.
• Malai Broccoli: Lacked any warmth or the characteristic smoky char. It tasted like a leftover.
• The Paneer Tikka & Mushrooms: These vegetarian staples were equally cold and unappetizing.
• Honey Chilli Pineapple: Usually a family favourite, they were limp and cold, missing their signature hotness.
The famous grill set on our table felt utterly pointless. Its purpose is to keep the starters warm and add a final smoky touch. How can it keep something warm that was never hot to begin with? We were essentially served a platter of cold, pre-cooked appetisers.
The Only Glimmer of Warmth
The only saving grace, and the sole reason this review gets two stars instead of one, was the special menu for their ongoing festival. The items from this specific menu were served hot and were quite delicious. This was baffling to us – it proved that the kitchen was capable of serving hot food, so why were all the regular, signature starters being neglected so badly? It created a bizarre contrast between the hot, flavourful festival dishes and the cold, lifeless regular ones.
Service and Main Course
We did raise the issue with the staff, and while they were polite and replaced a couple of skewers, the new ones that arrived were only marginally warmer. It seemed to be a systemic issue in the kitchen rather than a one-off mistake.
By the time we decided to move to the main course buffet, our dining experience was already soured. The main course spread was decent, with the usual variety, but our appetites were ruined by the initial disappointment. The meal felt like a salvage operation rather than an enjoyable dinner.
Final Verdict
A trip to Barbeque Nation is meant to be a celebration of hot, grilled food and lively service. Our experience today was the complete opposite. Serving cold starters is an unforgivable flaw for a restaurant that has built its entire brand on this concept. While the festival specials were good, they couldn't compensate for the failure in delivering the basics.
I sincerely hope the management at the Fun Republic branch takes this feedback seriously. They need to urgently review their food preparation and serving process to ensure that every dish, not just the promotional ones, meets the brand's quality standards. Until then, I would be hesitant to return or recommend this...
Read moreI used to visit this outlet often( BBQ Nation, Fun republic, Andheri W,Mumbai). On 12th January, 2025 , I visited for lunch. 4 family members (including one child). This time, menu items were reduced (no welcome drink, no chef's special item), but the pricing remained fixed at INR999/- per head plus GST and service charges. It was all quantity, no quality. The earlier staff were replaced. Half-cooked chicken were served on the table oven without any seasoned masala. Menu items were also reduced at the buffet. Cost-cutting was readily visible. The food had no taste, and there were only bones in the container containing red meat. Loud music was played, creating the mood of a fish market. I brought all of this to the attention of the staff, who stated that the reduction of menu items is a management decision. After receiving complaints, the loud music was turned down. I could observe other customers being dissatisfied with the food quality. Service charges of 5% were included in the bill. On July 4, the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) released instructions stating that no hotel or restaurant shall add a service charge to the bill automatically or by default, and that the service charge shall not be collected from customers under any other name.13 Apr 2023. No one listened when I protested. There was no after-meal mouth freshener mint. I was quite astonished by all of this!! I'll write to statutory authorities about this outlet levying service charges without my consent. I am cautioning public that they dont have to pay service charge in restaurants, unless until agreed with the restaurant. It is not the amount, but the non compliance. A new outlet of Barbeque nation opened recently at Vile parle, east, Mumbai. That too is pathetic. At Rs.4200/- ( as per my bill), better quality food can be had at decent restaurants in Mumbai. Only item worth praising was Pani-poori. After this experience, I decided that this would be my last visit to Barbeque nation. Not recommended if you desire to have quality food...
