Foo mumbai located in a cute little hillock at Powai has the most brilliant location. Not just does it overlook half of powai but it's also got the peace and serenity that comes along with seclusion. They've got a beautiful seating area overlooking the outside and a really well decorated bar.
First up, one thing that I couldn't help noticing was their brilliant service - they've got the most amazing, polite, courteous and welcoming staff and management who ensure the best treatment. We had Mr. Swapnil who was hosting us this afternoon and he ensured that we felt extremely comfortable, at ease and welcomed. And we could see the same courtesy being passed out to people on adjacent tables as well. Felt really nice as this reflects the truest sense of hospitality.
We tried the 7 course Asian menu being served all weekdays and Saturdays for lunch. This was at 695 plus taxes. The Asian set menu was great - it has been developed by their chef who is Malaysian and he's done a lovely job with this. Most of the dishes are so brilliant and made in such a way that even if you don't consume meat its definitely not something you'd miss. The flavour in the individual dishes itself is brilliant.
Here's what they serve:
Soup: the soup that we tried was a chicken laksa soup and a hot and sour veg soup. The laksa soup had a coconut base, lots of exotic veggies and packed a punch. The hot and sour soup was loaded with little chunks of tofu and its literally the first time that I've had a tofu that tastes this good.
Salad: for the salad we tried the Thai me up salad which had lotus stem, glass noodles, peanuts all basted in a sweet and sour sauce and served cold. It was just brilliant. The crunch of the lotus stem was a great combination with the tanginess of the sauce.
Sushi: there were 4 options available but we tried 2 of these. A California roll which was superbly well made and a prawns tempura sushi roll that was another very well made one. We really loved the freshness of the dishes.
Dimsum: we tried two different types of dimsum. The charcoal Har gao dimsum had a prawn and crab stuffing in a paper thin dumpling cover. Really flavourful. The Sriracha chicken dumpling was another wonder with a really flavourful inner filling and a soft coating. The tonnes of flavour in the dumpling was a constant across the two.
Mains: we had some lovely Maine from the menu. Their signature Japanese butter blue fried rice was stuff dreams are made up of. It had a really subtle flavour and a whole load of exotic veggies. The yellow curry gravy was a great accompaniment to this - it had a blast of flavour, was thick and creamy with a strong coconut flavour. The red snapper gravy was really great as well with very soft chunks of fish. The Hakka noodles had a tonne of really nice flavor and was great.
Dessert: the dessert here was the perfect end to such a brilliant meal. The sesame cheesecake was soft, goeey and creamy. The ice cream was great to cut the richness of the dessert. The snickers was a replica of the chocolate with chocolate mousse, a hazelnut cream and loads of chunks of peanut. We loved the richness which was super satiating.
We also tried a foo rise and Thai grass drinks which were really refreshing. These are paid for outside of the set menu. They also serve an in-house japanese rice beer which is great.
We loved the food and it was definitely stuff to come back to along with the service, the quality and the...

Weekends have been all about gallivanting in search of something new and exciting & this experience was no less. My cravings to try something Asian brought me to this quaint space in Powai popularly known as Foo.
In the frame, we’ve got,
Spicy Seafood Peking Dumpling – A pleasant mélange of assorted seafood encased in a carefully prepared Dumpling wrapper. Is it spicy? The answer is No because you would expect some form of heat tingling your tastebuds. But it sure is delicious. The umami mouthfeel seafood paired with the array of dipping sauces is something you just can’t get over.
Nikkei Prawn Tempura Uramaki – A play on textures is what was evident on this plate. However, any sushi connoisseur would easily figure out that the rice lacked balance between the sweet, salty, and sour and tasted a touch bland. The tempura prawns were spot on. Light, Crispy, and tasted Ocean on a plate. They paired this with your usual pickled ginger and wasabi but not so usual chimichurri mayonnaise and coriander oil which was a pleasant twist on a Japanese classic.
Spicy Hunan Baby Chilly Potatoes – Morish is the word I’d use for this beauty. Crispy on the outside, soft, and fluffy on the inside. These babies were an absolute hit. The balance of the sweet and spicy with the textural elements of sesame seeds & scallions. The plate was wiped off in minutes.
Red Snapper, Oyster Sauce, King Chilly – Unfortunately, this was once of my least favorite dishes. The fish tasted bland, the broth felt gluggy, and it wasn’t enjoyable to say the least. Maybe this is a dish the team can work on getting better.
Assorted Mushroom in Veg Oyster Sauce – Mushroom Meat. Patato Potato. I don’t think one can ever go wrong with the shrooms. They’re literally THE FLAVOR BOMBS and they were treated no less in this dish too. The mushrooms were the star of the bowl and the broth accompanying it just elevated the dish to the ultimate food heavens. It was the perfect big plate for our rice.
Foo Blue Butter Japanese Fried Rice – Art in a bowl. This plate is a masterpiece on its own. The bright blue color in the rice is obtained from the Butterfly Blue Pea flower also known as “Asian Pigeonwings” and it’s tossed with Baby corn and your usual fried rice elements making it the perfect accompaniment to your big plates.
Foo Black Marble Sesame Cheesecake – 3 WORDS. OH MY GOD. This dessert was suggested by the bartender Romario and he quoted that I wouldn’t regret it and kid you not I didn’t. This has been the best cheesecake I have tried. Just the right amount of sweet to end this beautiful meal.
The Bar menu is exciting. The twist of classics with an Asian spin sure tickled our tastebuds. Romario the Cute Bartender I quote ensured we were suited to the best cocktails in his menu and the craftsmanship was beautiful.
All in all, I would definitely recommend this place if you want are in the mood for an Asian Oriental experience.

Read moreHad been to this place for lunch. Although it was a weekday the place was occupied with people. We had a slot booked for 2:30 pm. However by the time we arrived it was almost 3. The place is a lil inside however can be easily located.
The ambience is very welcoming and pleasant. Also the staff is very polite and cordial. They even recommended us food options and must say it was indeed worth the try.
We browsed through the À la carte menu and felt that we should try the set menu(buffet) as it had a variety and the portions will be yummy filling and satisfying. The set menu is available from Monday to Friday (12-4pm). It has a provision to choose from a few best sellers. We were 3 people so we opted for 3 different dishes in each course.
The following is the dishes we ordered :
Soups or salads:
Miso soup: (The Miso soup served here was vegetarian and was indeed up to the mark.)
Tom Yum prawn soup: (Felt a lil disappointed as found the soup to be a bit to tangy and was loaded with vegetables and the prawns was overpowered. However the cherry tomatoes was the best part of it!)
The Q & A(salad): (The vegetables were very fresh and the salad dressing was just perfect to our liking.) **Highly recommended.
Sushi
Truffle Togarashi Black Rice Maki (V): (The sushi was just amazing. Must say it was a delicately made masterpiece.)
Nikkei Prawn Tempura Uramaki: (Can say I am biased towards spiced prawns however the prawns that was stuffed in the sushi wasn’t marinated but just loved it!!)
Salmon Truffle Maki: (The texture of the sushi was 10/10 and definitely a must try.)
Dim sums
Daikon Peking Chilly Oil Dumpling(V): (It’s a veg dim sum but was heavenly and is beyond comparison.)
Sriracha Chicken Dumpling: (Sriracha is my all time fav and is definitely a must have . It’s indeed unsurpassable)
Spicy Seafood Peking Dumpling: (Words can’t be used to describe it’s taste but found it texture to be extra chewy which was a lil disappointing )
Big plates
Foo Yellow Curry - Chicken: (It’s a best seller for a reason. It’s taste was perfect but again the vegetable’s overpowered the meat)
Prawns in Chilly Black Bean: (Found it to be a good accompaniment to the Hakka noodles. Also it was suggested by one of the servers)
RICE OR NOODLES
Foo Blue Butter Japanese Fried Rice (V): (It was definitely worth a try )
Foo Hakka Noodles (V): (Found the hakka noodles to be a lil extra tangy)
DESSERTS-
Black Marble Sesame Cheesecake(Contains egg white): (The texture of the cheesecake was just amazing . Found the portion to be less but was satisfying)
Snickerz (V): (Tasted like normal sneakers but with extra richness and is a must try.) The ice cream served along with the desserts was ice crystals free and was layered on top of crispy crumbs.
In short, found the place to be a perfect place to try Pan Asian food in Powai. Found the À la carte to be expensive if you are looking forward to trying a variety of dishes but the set menu serves just right in case of both portion...
